DuncanDoughnuts Posted January 6, 2019 Share I don't often ride the cradle but this morning I stopped 3 times to pick up spent Road cycling tubes and Co2bombs... If you are one of the guilty riders who feels its ok ok to just toss your spent tubes and cartridges into the veld when you done fixing your punctures. shame on you. You have no respect for the area you are riding in. it always the few that give the majority a bad rap. disgusted BigDL, Quagga, tinmug and 11 others

m-squared Posted January 6, 2019 Share Thanks for helping to keep the cradle clean. I was out there today and I did notice a lot of newbies riding, must be new year's resolutions. Anyway, I guess it's up to us experienced riders to teach them common sense and decency. Bonus

Chris_ Posted January 7, 2019 Share Agreed, this Sat I noticed a bag load of gel packets lying around at some the usual stopping places. PUT YOUR SH*T IN YOUR POCKETS! Vetplant, Long Wheel Base, Sepia and 1 other
Skinnyone Posted January 7, 2019 Share this is what blows my mind - you rode there with a spare tube and a CO2 cartridge - will it hurt to put the used/old stuff back where the new stuff was? Wannabe, BigDL, Sidersky and 1 other
Long Wheel Base Posted January 7, 2019 Share I have seen this so often. I saw it at modderfontein reserve once. I picked up 3 tubes and some bombs lying together. The dude obviously didn't remove the thorn. I hope he had to walk back. I took the tubes home, patched them and keep them in my spares box. I ride tubeless mtb but never know when someone will need a tube. Chris_, Vetplant, Bonus and 2 others

And no, I'm not a noobie. Couldn't have been caused by the super strava snakes who cant spare a second to wait to get past a person?? I mean these are people who are trained by special ops to fix punctures and replace tubes in a blink of an eye. Strikes me that as weight weenies they may not see the point of carrying a used tube?? This whilst a "noobie" spends half an hour with his /her bike upside down trying to fix the problem. The message is not lost - its unacceptable and in poor form to leave crap lying around anywhere, cradle or otherwise. Less pointing of fingers and more awareness to take your own stuff is probably whats required. HuckNorris

I will admit that years ago I used to chuck them on the road/dirt but as we become more aware of the consequences you realise that it's not a schlep at all to just chuck it at the finish or when you get home. I do still chuck banana peels though, some people say that is harmful but some say it's fine. I can't see how it will affect the environment but happy to be proved wrong. Think about it this way - if 5 people ride the route you do a day , and everyone chucks their banana peel. By the end of the week you're going to have 35 peels rotting on the ground. apart from the unsightly sight and smell, it's going to attract flies and rats and you don't want to be riding through a mush of organic waste. #leaveNoTrace an environmentalist said to me before, if a banana tree is not growing there, then the peel doesn't belong there, and that's my goto. I have never smelt a banana peel rotting on the side of the road - nor have I seen a pile of peels on the side of the road... The dead cat that someone hit smells worse... So a tree that is there got there how? Stop and think about a bird seating the fruit and seeds - then sitting in a tree and pooping the seed out - a tree could grow there from the bird pooping - organic matter...must we now clean up all bird poop too? What you are saying is the roads must be swept of all organic matter so that we don't ride through mush - ever ridden along a road with Jacaranda trees on the side? when those purple flowers drop - that is like riding on an ice rink... s14phoenix Posted January 7, 2019 Share I have called out many a fellow rider during road races and group rides - it does not matter where you ride even if you are ridding through a garbage riddled area - do not add to the problem - you are the problem. The other issue is that people in this country do not give a **** because its not their problem. One particular rider from Soshanguve Cycling Club (in club kit) @ Tswane Classic A-bunch I called out for tossing a gel in the grass during the race, on the highway section back into Pta - " I threw it in the grass - not on the road - what is your problem"... Some people JUST DON'T GET IT. Long Wheel Base, Sepia, Dirkitech and 1 other
