Mountain biking, pedestrians, dogs and sharing Table Mountain

Judging by the number of complaints we are getting about cyclists, maybe some cyclists need to be put on leashes too.

there are plenty who don't slow for runners, walkers or any other oncoming traffic including fellow mtbers.

they are typically pretty slow on the ups so try to make up for this on the downs.

They just need to accept that they're fat and ride up the hills harder. Change of strategy required

Sound like potential eBike clients

So far so good for me, everyone who I've greeted on the trails greets back I slow down to a crawl when I see doggo's (I don't stop to pat strange dogs I'm coloured and they'll probably go into attack mode) but no complaints... Ok maybe about that 60 something year old lady hippie walking near Constantia nek with a tank top on and no bra....

But I suppose whatever floats your boat

Please send them this way. We have none of those here in Tygerberg :whistling:

little bit clueless

whats table mountain

always hear these ous from cape rave about Table mountain but us ous in Jhb have no clue

Just needing to put it out there that Table Mountain Routes, paths etc gets shared between all.  Please do that responsibly.  Nobody is above behaving like a decent person.  It is very definitely NOT a race track, for nobody.  So the guys who like to race and do not like to slow down for people, dogs kids etc  please go somewhere else where you can race to your hearts content.  Seriously people we all love the Mountain and want to be in that beautiful space in harmony.  We have enough aggression as it is every day around us.

It goes for all of us out there. Enjoy whatever you do.

Context, please? Did something happen recently? Not saying that one shouldn't behave properly, but it sounds as if this is something borne of a recent personal experience. When I and my buddies ride TM, we make a point of being courteous and respectful of all other users (especially those with doggos, as they can get a bit freaked by a bicycle shunting past them) and slow right down when encountering other users. Sometimes walkers / hikers see us coming down the trail and step all the way off the trail, to let us go past without having to slow down, and we let them know very much how welcome that movement is and wish them a good eve / walk.

But you're right - TM is there for everyone to enjoy, and one sour user spoils the experience, sometimes.

Yes indeed.  Two walkers and a dog.  MTbiker came from blockhouse at a hell of a speed, did shout but because of his speed they could not get out of the way in time(plus dog) and he lost a bit of balance and at that moment the walker shouted to watch out as he was all wobbly.  Walker should not have done that.  Biker got off his bike. stormed up to them and shouted at them for being so ignorant  .......+++  fortunately the walker just admitted to be wrong and said to be very sorry which then diffused his anger.  Fortunately I say because we all know how things can escalate when you try and match another's anger.  point still is:: we all just need to calm the damn down and be nice people. :)

Sounds like the classic case of both parties getting a big fright and reacting accordingly. Mult-use trails are a bit of a balls up at times.

Remember that this bit of the mountain is very much a race track - wait for the Epic Prologue in 2 months time...

Now if more people upped their skill levels and rode Tokai ( the only non shared MTB trails on TM) then these problems would diminish :-)

Well done, I've found a simple stop, greet the tannie, pat the dog and say "have a lovely walk!" disarms the dikbek in about 25secs.

You still get the occasional Saartjie suur or Jannie jammergat, but shame, they must have been living miserable lives even before I spoiled their entire day by riding my bike (or walking my bear) near their hairless dog masquerading as a toothpick.

I stopped doing that since an ridgeback tried to bite me. Luckily it only nipped my trail shorts

my own silly fault - the muzzle should have been a warning.

This was on Table Mountain (below Tafelberg Rd)
