Reminds me of a year or 2 ago when Rohan Du Plooy almost became mince meat at the hands(wheels) of an 18wheeler...

I do not understand how CSA cannot get full road closures for their NATIONAL CHAMPS!! it's not like it's a fun ride/race..

Like Pure Savage tweeted, they too busy checking CSA racing and day license to arrange road closures!!

Ther Rohan du Plooy incident was actually at the TOGH if I recall correctly.

But it was 2 years ago that Paul Meinking one of the masters riders was taken out by a truck turning into the road at the National Champ TT's and permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Clearly no lessons were learned.

Sjoe that was hard!! Congrats to everyone completing this MONSTER!! I'm stoked to finish this one after my bad crash almost a year ago! I sprinted Carl Lotter for 6/7th 40-44 but cramped up like never before!! I'm happy I ONLY cramped at the finish and not up TJ or before as the pace was just silly at times!!

It wasn't a bad family outing - 3rd elite women for Jo!! Very impressive!!

The vibe on the course looked awesome from insta... wish that CSA spoke to CTCTT when Western Cape hosts then maybe we could have it in Cape Town and not in the middle of nowhere. A little loop up Kloof nek and round would make for a great spectacle.

It seems like this tweet has been removed? What was it all about?

2 lane road(for the direction they racing). Orange cone on the dotted line between the 2 lanes(so cyclist meant to have the left lane). Cars in both lanes. Elite ladies among the cars trying to race.

Pure Savage , the atmosphere was goose-bump stuff .

This shows that competitive racing on a short(10 -15km ) circuit is what the people want .

ALL SA Champs courses should be like this .

It was good to see so many youngsters out there watching .... hopefully getting inspired by their hero's .

I have 1 complaint .

Why not make different coloured numbers for the different categories ??

I know the numbers were supposed to differentiate the categories , but all riders in the 30 - 39 had numbers starting with 3 , but you couldnt tell who was in 30 - 34 or 35 - 39 . Never mind once all the bunches had done about 6 laps .... riders and groups all over the road .

Colored numbers would make spectating much easier for everyone .

It was a bit of an unfair comment......

Yes, there was only one lane to race in for the ladies which made it crazy difficult for them.  The guys on the next day had two lanes.

But the picture was of a lady getting in between the convoy behind the bunch.  All in this narrow lane yes but it was a dropped rider weaving through the convoy.........

Not just spectating, Racing as well. No point covering an attack etc if the dude isn't in your category. Your idea is a good one.

Hmm ok so that must be why the tweet was removed. I saw the picture at face value(as did probably majority who saw it) and did not know it was the convoy. He failed to mention that.

Great road course. Loads of spectators on the two climbs and finish line. The passing through the feed zone each lap was spectacular.

My 2cents

  • Just too many races / events going on at the same time. The veteran catergories need different colour numbers.
  • The veteran catergories need to at these events. The 50+ men TT were on par with the 30+ men.
  • The elite men should have a clear route. A completely separate start. Maybe only have Sunday for the elite men.
  • I suggest a qualifying criteria for elite men. Way too many kids getting dropped on first lap and not getting off the course once they have been lapped.
