speaking of which, is it just me or does it seem slightly suspicious when someone joins the Hub and withing an hour of joining he/she posts 2 higher end DS bikes in the classifieds section (read Merida 96-6000 and Spez Camber).

No reasons given, no narrative, not suspicious, never...

Do i smell bokkom or am i being presumptuous?‍

A few people I know / ride with have joined the Hub solely for the purpose of selling - some very high end bikes. So that means the first ad will always be posted straight after joining. I don't see anything suspect with it.

The forums are not for everyone...

Highly presumptuous.

Could just as well be a cyclist that spends time riding and not chatting on forums, who is immigrating and unloading bikes. Or upgrading and unloading bikes. Or stopped with riding and unloading bikes. Or got injured and unloading bikes. Or started golf and unloading bikes. Or switched to road and unloading bikes. Or getting rid of N+1 and unloading bikes. Or deploying out to an oil rig and unloading bikes.

What is happening to Bikehub classifieds?!

Loads of lowball offers in direct messages from guys that's been on the forum for 3 or 4 years, but not a single post. Ad goes up for R1200 for a brand new item that sells for R2200 - and guyX with zero posts sends pm in 1min offering R800. No hellos or formalities, no bargaining, no questions, no courteous chatter - just an amount with a question mark. R800?

Not a single comment on the ad. Where's the days of "dibs" and "PM sent" - or is everyone scared that if they show interest someone else is going to buy it first?

Yesterday I sold a bunch of items over BH, and not a single comment on the ads - but plenty of Pm's and mails.

Not sure I like the new BH classified vibe - feels more like gumtree?!

not so much theory as fact I believe - I know of 2 guys who definitely use the Hub to earn a living.  The problem is then that the history of the item is now 3rd hand at least

So I am not the only one here? I certainly don't try make money on the side by buying and selling here.

I don’t get the deal with if someone got something from you at a price (willing seller, willing buyer) and they then sell it off for a profit.

The seller wants someone else to appreciate what he is selling , not selling it for the max price but rather passing it on to someone else to enjoy. When the buyer just scoops it up and resells for maximum profit then the ethos of the classified section is lost and it's just another gumtree Olx

My 2c....

Very recently there was a very good deal on a carbon Trek MTB.

Let's call it a text-book case of a Hubber selling not for the purpose of making a buck, but rather to give someone who cannot afford a new bike the chance of owning a good quality bike.

If I had the money, I would have bought that no questions...the size of bike I ride does not come around very often.

The following day I wanted to have a 2nd look...and the add is gone. So bike sold, and I think somewhere is a lucky hubber with a new bike that got an awesome deal!

Alas!

Yesterday I see the same bike (well I am 99.9% sure) being advertised by a dealer on the site, for R8k more than the first add!!

I am all for guys making a living from buying/selling stuff...even if you do it on the side to finance your own cycling expenses...but I do feel it creates a BAD VIBE when you buy on here, and re-sell here as well.

Everyone that saw that add now knows you got the bike at  bargain, and making huge profit.

I am for the proposal to say, if you buy it here and wish to re-sell....sell it elsewhere (i.e. gumtree, FB or the likes).

Eg. CWC (and the shoppers) will certainly not stand for someone buying 100 items that is on sale, and when the sale is done  re-selling it for a profit; on the same premises!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!  :)

We are busy working on the first version of our new Classifieds update. The aim is to improve and grow the Classifieds but, at the same time, we are very aware of the importance of the community aspects of Bike Hub.

We have been meeting with Hubbers to get early feedback on the updates, and we will be presenting these for comment more broadly in the coming months.

We are already working on fixes for a number of the gripes that have been mentioned in this thread, but there are always things that we haven't consider. So please keep this conversation going (here and in the other classifieds discussions).

Just maybe another suggestion.

Could there maybe be a easy way to filter your own ads.

At the moment you have to go to your own ads by searching for them or through the dropdown at your username. Could there not be a simple button to push on the main screen that said, "Your Adds" and it immediately takes you to your listed adds?

Just a thought

Although I agree that a dedicated button would be cool to avoid the multiple clicks.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll chat to the team about this.

The rough design we currently have, your ads will be two clicks away on any page. One for the drop down and one on the My Ads link.

Loads of lowball offers in direct messages...

I've been trying to see the funny side of some of the lowball offers, but it really can test your patience at times.

Not to mention the guys criticizing pricing on new items (@ 50% of cost) that they clearly know very little about or comparing it to their prices on 5yr old (and older) used comparatives. (and yes, we're talking bibs here)

Do some homework and ensure you know what you're talking about.

Because no, I won't be selling you a Bianchi Oltre XR2 for R1000.! LOL

Ya, I hear you about lowballers. Perhaps we should have some kind of sub-rating as a warning to others? But that might get used for the wrong reasons.

There's also the users who violate the T&Cs by reposting a new advert for the same item every second day or so? ;) We're looking for solutions to that too if you have any suggestions.

Hi nick! It would be super helpful to be able to “heart” ads or add them to a wishlist so you could find them at a later stage, helps if you want to follow up on someone who didn’t reply , or check up on an ad or able you to find an ad quickly once you come up with the cash! Haha
