Depends on weather and seeding, from your stats you are pretty much on track.

Knysna did a 4:03 with my folks.

If you are in anything up to 1D and good weather you have a chance of a sub 3.

Next year I am going to try sub 3 with my old man at age 67!. Reckon with a decent seeding, weather and a perfect wheel to sit on all day it should be possible.

What? was I that slow when we rode together :)

You can subtract about 30 mins (according to my calculations) from this year's Argus which brings you just under 3 hours.

Thank you very much.

So when I was your age I had a few pals and we pushed each other. Trained together, lied to each other about secret not so secret training and rode as many events as we could afford. The sub 3 came quickly and it was fun. But those days it was 105km and we were doing 2hr 45min to 2hr 50min Act's.

Some structure helps with planning and knowing when to take a rest week. Structure never hurts but you don't want to lose the fun factor

You can definitely do a sub-3 at 63kg. You need to ride 8hr/week (2 hard rides), do as many PPA races as possible to get a good seeding. Then unless the weather is terrible you got it. Its harder if you are heavier because you need to make it up Edinburgh Drive with front of your group and then Smits. After that you are sorted. Don't do any work! Let the big guys do that.

What a pleasant young man, breath of fresh air.

Tell your parents we appreciate the person you have become. Keep up the good attitude.

There are some other folks his age on this forum who should meet this young chap of upstanding character. See what a good attitude and manners can achieve.

Definitely, my favorite parts of cycling are riding with my friends and unfortunately, I am now the fittest one so now I literally push them up all the hills

Thank you very much for the advice. Will definitely implement more hours into my week

Almost restores my faith in the youth ...with your attitude I’m fairly certain your Sub 3 will come next time out - but it’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t - stay positive and remember that we ride to be healthy and have fun.

Where is this young gun based?

Maybe someone with experience in his area could take him under their wing and mentor / offer guidance. It is quite a thing to keep pushing if you are now ahead of your typical cycling mates.

Maybe invite the young man with on a weekly ride etc.

Thank you. I'm based in Cape Town with Club 100.

Only Junior in the club, the other guys in my club are still a bit faster with A,B, D and E seeding.

I am currently faster than my school friends but the club is still a long ladder to the top
