DieselnDust Posted September 5, 2019 Share The worst part of the route is the wagon trail descent. Climbing up there is bad bitter descent is narrow lose and rocky. Much of the route was covered in 2016 except this time stage 1 is based in Ceres. Thanks n 2016 it was based in Tulbagh. Heat is going to be a major fsctor
GrahamS2 Posted September 5, 2019 Share Pretty much a predictable outcome for the route. Not too excited about this one. It seems to get easier every year since 2008No, it does not! It get's harder and harder and it's the pinnacle of mtb in south africa the world the whole universe and only the best of the best of the best sponsored pros with matching absa kit are allowed the absolute privilege of even attempting it!! You wouldn't know because you're a loser and have never even finished it or maybe you have I don't actually know but I can't be bothered to find out because I'm busy gargling the epic Kool-Aid so hard right now!!! I've got every route map and my amazing top 250GC finishing times tattoo'd on my massive calves, so I know EVERYTHING about the epic, bro. PhilipV Posted September 6, 2019 Share Death drop, Red Bull Hill and the Pipeline descent on day 1. Lekker!Going to be a lot of pushbike action in the back of the field. Up and down hill. DieselnDust
wessie12 Posted September 6, 2019 Share rubbish, more and more people are making cut off. Its just easier than it was in the past.Trail conditions are the same for everyone and its been a factor since 2004. Yes even the journey days had rough, sandy, corrugated, wind, mud, cold , heat. The fact is its shorter and with less climbing, therefore easier. This year I saw on 2 stages back markers being redirected to shortcuts in order to make cut offs. The fitness and skills level of back markers is shocking to say the least.

Skubarra Posted September 6, 2019 Share Cut and paste Yes, but how many variations of 8 days of clover leaf routes ending in Paarl can you really do before you run out of new options? Are there any proper trails near Cape Town that haven't been covered yet? JohanDiv, DieselnDust and babse

J Wakefield Posted September 6, 2019 Share The greenbelt. You can't have Epic wear out do the W2W shirts on the greenbelt. It would be sacrilege. Pure Savage
dannysabbagh Posted September 6, 2019 Share Lots of Epic haters out there. I agree that the back markers are crap but the story about redirect and shortcuts is pure garbage and I know because I'm at the back. Tatt and Duane_Bosch

I am not talking about 10km shortcuts, merely short sections of single track that loops from the main route that would keep back markers busy for 10-15 min at a time. I know because It was on private farms where I had access and where I cheered for 95% of the field and later had to move out of the "loop" in order to cheer for my buddy and a few other teams that that did not do the loop.
