I cancelled a card a week or so ago after an attempted fraudulent Uber charge... same card that was used for a Garmin SA purchase a few months ago.

I also had a card compromised though uber

A fraudulent charge on Uber doesn't mean compromised through Uber.  When credit card info is stolen, it has to be confirmed.  So you need some kind of way to quickly check the card.  The card information could easily be obtained elsewhere.  Uber seems to be popular for this.

Question - to what extent does it make any difference what bank you are with, since credit cards seemingly are not part of the bank, but contracted out.

I am looking to get a credit card for online use only, limiting this type of exposure ... but I am getting the same answers from the big banks .... seems the credit card terms and conditions are not managed by the "bank".

I would be most grateful if anybody has more information on safer options for credit cards - or other cards that would allow online shopping, Zwift payments, etc ...

I have had some very good service at FNB over the last 10 years, but they have now gone the call centre route .... let's just say the wheels seems to be coming off ....

I haven't used it for a few years, but worked when last I tried it.

either way...BAD for a "trusted" brand to let this happen...it is not like they are "Garry's online calculator shop" or something

And for a guy starting an online company (aka me) I use a third party system for exactly this reason, It is just safer ... and hopefully builds trust.

Reading from another forum (4x4); if the merchant cannot produce a voucher signed by the customer the bank can take the money back from said merchant and will refund the cardholder. True or false?

For online purchases...?!

Seems to me that Garmin isn't just crap at making reliable GPS units. They're also crap at personal data security.

wahoo please get Vitality access sorted ASAP

2nd statement might be correct, 1st is bs and their marketshare proves the point

Anyone else get the general email response explaining what happened ?

Nope. Checked my records and it appears my last transaction with them was in 2014 so hopefully they deleted my details before this incident. All other transactions have been with Navworld point of sale

Agreed, the other way they used to test is by trying to buy music on iTunes, they normally try a low value amount to see if the details are valid and then go all in after that.

Either that or your credit card used at the time has expired and you have a new one?
