Have some mates that totally lost their mojo for riding, common denominator was that they ended up taking it all way too seriously, they all became ultra competative, entering lots of races, training like maniacs, spending bombs on bikes and gear etc...

Personally never got into that really, always have had a bit of a zen thing for riding, like the solitude and rhythm, ride at my own pace, ride when I have time and when I feel like it, sometimes ride with mates but if they blitz the pace I let them go, see ya.

Not saying taking the sport seriously is wrong but perspective is needed to keep enjoying the real benefits, health, mind, sun on your face, breathe....

For me it’s a lifestyle, i cycle as part of an exercise process to keep fit and healthy. If I don’t do some exercise then i start feeling unhealthy and terrible.

I’ve gone from racing every weekend in the 90’s to maybe 1 race a year....

Did I mention I love eating sweat stuff and chocolates, so I kind of have to do something to keep the weight down

Variety makes a difference, try not get stuck in a rut.

Yip with winter comming I am looking at swimming and ice skating. But with the fact that I am doing home office now I am hoping to get my routines sorted soon and might be able to make a brake for it at about 11 in the morning when it is not that cold and still get to ride deeper into the winter which will make the time off the bike less.  And yes with good choclates and good beer selling cheaper than bottled water I do have a challange on hand.

Sold my bike at the beginning of this year. For me, the bike just became to much of a faff. Spending stupid money on replacing parts and it ultimately just became a black hole for my free time. It takes so much time to prep all your gear, the bike, get dressed, drive to the trails, unload, ride, repack, drive home, unpack, wash, etc. etc. Just eats up those precious hours over the weekend.

Now I run and can get a better exercise in 2hrs than I can during a day long ride, with no fuss. Shoes, shorts, shirt, water and out the door.

I still want to get a bike in 2020, but considering that winter is approaching, I can't be arsed about it now.

Also got tired of the endless maintenance and cost, a dual suspension Mtb is an expensive wife.

Running with an audiobook or music is bliss, you can't really do either riding because at those speed its asking for trouble nevermind the wind noise makes it neigh impossible.

I still love riding, for most it's a lifelong affair that starts in childhood. But I want to go back to the basics, a bulletproof low maintenance bike, maybe single speed, relatively cheap so not a massive loss if its stolen, freedom to cruise around and enjoy the experience.

Yeah Swiss........chocolate.......in your neck of the woods!

I am in Dubai., on my way home for a month. This thread has motivated me to dust off my little Moorewood Zula and do some work! My lovely Soma steel hard tail was last seen in the garage months ago, still covered in mud (dried) from my last ride.........my bad.

My motorcycles have been a little too consuming, after all, it is that bit easier up the hills.

I dont know many peeps on here, but I thoroughly enjoy The Hub, I really like the variety of topics, not just the SA connection when I am away from home but also what the various Hubbers abroad are up to.
