nah I think he's done for the tour. He's not a strong enough climber so I reckon the edge he had in week 1 is gone.

Almost along these lines, something I was thinking about yesterday but admittedly I don't have the past tours knowledge of most here.. Is how many of the green jersey chaps we're talking about will even make it to Paris. It could/will be a very different picture in however many days time, especially if the pace keeps klapping it so hard every day.

generally the green jersey winner has been a mediocre climber and not a total lead sled.

Only Abdoujaporov and Zabel were more pure sprinters to take the Green Jersey to Paris. Most of the winners fall into the Puncheur category

Although they are Slavic- different culture.

Wiki:

"Slovene is an Indo-European language belonging to the Western subgroup of the South Slavic branch of the Slavic languages, together with Serbo-Croatian. It is close to the Chakavian and especially Kajkavian dialects of Serbo-Croatian, but further from the Shtokavian dialect, the basis for the Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, and Serbian standard languages.[14] Furthermore, Slovene shares certain linguistic characteristics with all South Slavic languages, including those of the Eastern subgroup, such as Bulgarian.

Mutual intelligibility with varieties of Serbo-Croatian is hindered by differences in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, Kajkavian being the most mutually intelligible. The Slovene language has many commonalities with the West Slavic languages."

I wonder what that the most popular second language is there? Italian? Serbian? English? Russian?

Wiki:

The official and national language of Slovenia is Slovene, which is spoken by a large majority of the population. It is also known, in English, as Slovenian. Two minority languages, namely Hungarian and Italian, are recognised as co-official languages and accordingly protected in their residential municipalities.

At my previous place of work, the Technical Manager was from Serbia, and he said Croatia was more Italian than Slovenia - mostly because the holiday destination in Croatia was more popular and investment in Croatia for cheaper labour. Out of interest, the Fererro Rocher packaging is made in Croatia (the cup and gold foil).

Serbia was more aligned to the Hungarian/Bulgarian/Romanian/Turkish way of life - religion and beliefs perspective.

Do you have to finish the tour to take the green jersey? You would know better than me but I don't think you do. And for that matter the polka dot?

I would add Robbie McEwan, Alessandro Petacchi and Mark Cavendish to the list of Sprinters.

Yes you have to cross the line in Paris. There was a time in history when enough points could be accumulated and when there wasn't enough left to overtake you, you could bail. But the rules now state you have to finish the tour. Which means the green jersey has to make cut off everyday

Yes this is true, Michael Matthews as well. I should have been more clear and specific in that Zabel and Abdujaparov were the only pure sprinters to win more than once or twice and over different courses.

Abdu won it three or 4 times and Zabel 6 times in a row. McEwan won it 3 times so I'll have to add him to the list as well. Cav and Petacchi only won one a piece.

Matthews is very handy over the climbs BTW and wouldn't call him a pure sprinter at least not the same as Ewan etc Edited by Gen

By the looks if it we have long straight roads today.

T-A heads into the mountains today.. so some multitasking is required

Today's stage is made for Pascal Ackermann.

If only he was there :)

head wind today.....

expecting a snooze fest till 5km to go.

I reckon it;ll be a Cees Bol stage if Wout doesn't sprint for it.

yesterday the team held him to Maillot Jeune protective duties

A lekker bump in the road between 3km and 2km to go for Bora to try and get rid of Sam. Doubt they will be able to though.

My fantasy team wants Sam to take it again. Personally, I would love it if Gibbons can give it a shot.

Think it is not tough enough for WvA to convince JV he needs to go for it.
