Standing in the store now...

Check your prices charged at the till vs the online price, it doesn't pull through on the current price automatically, but rather on the sticker.

Just be careful you don't go in for a deal and get jacked, it was on all of the 6 items I bought.

I went in to CWC to get some brake pads recently and the sales assistant actually asked me to hang 5 while he checks if the online price was better, which in this case was not to be. Still, I was quite impressed that he took the time to get me the best deal, even though I did not ask for it.

every time I go in store because I've seen something on their site at a good price, I tell them and they match the online price, nothing to complain about

Yeah, sorry, lemme clarify...

So items put in the counter, and rung up. Salesman doesn't say, lemme check these, hey its kit pulling through, he says zero... Other than cash or card.

I say, aren't these sale items, and he says, oh yes, sure lemme just apply the discount... It took a long while to fix, but that's not important.

My issue here is, clearly they're quite happy to gouge uninformed customers, rather than, being quite well aware products are on sale and automatically doing the right thing, they're charging the higher price without a conscience.

There's a big difference between that behaviour and either not knowing, or having a sticker price different from your online price, but applying the lower price as literally every other retail outlet I've ever used has done...

Sorry, it just seemed dodgy as hell, and I think people should be aware that they won't be given the benefit of the sale price unless they specifically ask for it.

there's no law saying you have to sell at discounted price, its not cool though.

But then again, maybe the salesman was having an off day and just totally forgot to add the discount. Sales people like cyclists are humans too.

Just playing devils advocate here.

Which is why I figured my Christmas gift to everyone on here is to warn them that the retail norm isn't present at CWC, and they should double check before putting it in... The card, I mean...

So they price-match their own prices? Shouldn't have to ask for it IMO.

I am no fan, but online prices are online prices. In-store prices could be different and if you go in-store to pay you would be paying higher prices. Or am I missing something?

My experience is unless the online store is branded differently, ie same backend but online presented as a standalone offering, the online and store prices should be identical.

What I have seen quite often is the online item will sometimes say "Online Only", meaning that the price or item will only be available via an online order. Other than that online and in store pricing should always match, and that has always been the case for me at Cape Union Mart, Makro, GAME etc.

HI GUYS. Funny that I had a similar experience at Cycle Lab and CW is associated with CL. I called in to ask if they had stock on a specific disk rotor. The  guy helping me checked and gave me the amount of stock they had in store and the price. So I left the shop I was in to go to CL just to get that rotor on my way home. When I got to the till, they rang it up on a higher price and when I told the lady at the counter it was wrong, she just ignored me three times.

CWC ... "shop" vs "online" ....

We live close to the Bellville shop, and I used to spend a fair bit of time in store.  OFTEN found that I see something online, get in shop and search the shelves ... eventually a salesperson would comment that "that item" is not "in store", but online only.  They then walk to the back and get it for me.

And YES, the "online special" prices seldom reflected on the "shelf price" ...  As I went in having seen the item online I would ask for the correct price.  I must have paid "shelf price" a few times though ...
