    • No, because most of the 150km of the trails are generally speaking, smooth as tar.

I've got no problem with club resources being used to build more technical trails. I probably won't ever ride them cos I'm 50 years old and find the trails as they are just perfect for my skill level. Nor do  know the history of these issues being raised at the club AGM but at all the sports clubs I've belonged to, new things happen when members actually contribute in the direction that they want things to happen. That means coming up with a plan, having design ideas, speaking about something tangible that you have done or are doing that will steer the direction of the club.

Otherwise you're just a whiner saying "They won't listen to what I want and it's not fair"

So you dont know the history yet you have an opinion on what should be done and how?

Do you know if your suggestion was tried and shot down or not?

How sure are you that members did not try new things? Or are you assuming?

I'm just leaving that oke now. He's just being a butthurt troll. Let's just ignore him, seems he's just after a reaction.

It happens all the time, Skubarra. And no, rating things properly is always preferential to rating them improperly, as that creates false confidence in new trails of the same "grading". Going to a new place, using tygerberg's ratings as a yardstick will ALWAYS end badly. The only solution to this is to re-rate the trails on TBMTBC's land, and show the masses what they're actually riding.

Just because you scope before you ride, doesn't mean everyone does.

If this really happens all the time then my fellow mtb'ers are really more stupid than I thought...

I see the little sign at the start of a trail as a rough guide on that you might expect ahead (and something that can possibly be biased either way), not a replacement for applying your brain and common sense.

(And yes, I scope before I attempt a black trail, maybe I'm just lucky that the Tyger trails never gave me illusions of "capability"  :D )

So basically in Cape Town, You join a private mtb club creating trails on private land and when asked for more, you get lawyers letters and lots of people telling you to stuff it!!

You take out a sanparks permit to ride trails, and when you ask questions about the trail, access, new trails etc.  You get people telling you stuff join the club and accusing you of things.

So moral is, get a jonkers permit and be happy, or just the sanparks permit and just ride whats there.

Wonder if the club would consider circulating a survey to members with respect to the tech/tame trails for future builds via a platform such as https://www.surveymonkey.com/

It kind of takes the guess work out this and these 95% this and whatever % that being spoken/assumed would then be real data to work with and formulate decisions.

Bye now indeed - this is the stock answer of every oke in every one of those sports clubs who has wanted something done but prefers to malign the club structures instead of ponying up and pushing things in the desired direction. It's an inherently dis-empowered position because you're asking an authority to do your bidding instead of taking a positive approach that gather momentum in the direction that is desired.

Way easier to say "Agh this club doesn't do [fill in the blank here]" and take potshots from the sidelines.

I'd love to see more trails on the network - of all kinds - easy, tough, lethal the lot but on current form, as a club member, I'm unlikely to support a personality who's complaining non-stop about an infrastructure that really works.

OK - so bye now Thermo. Or let's see if we can get this thread locked.

Mamil....what did I tell the dude on prev thread? oh yeah. Butthurt.

You have plenty stuff to ride, so STFU and let us 40 year olds do what we do. Bye now ;)

Yes, currently the 47 people FROM the club asking for the same thing.

Looking at the poll results most members are asking for something else to be build.

The way I see it, trails are build to suit the masses. = OK Cool

Now the little group that has been asking for a little more has been waiting for almost 7 years.

Now that this minority group feels that there must be enough out there for the avg joe(like me ) to ride

Surely...(120km + of fantastic trails.)  is a good amount.

This minority group is just asking.....

Hey, could we please, maybe, if not asking to much. have a little more....or have a spot on the build calendar for something more.

And boom, "Why are you moaning" "The club cates for 95% or the members" etc

I understand that 95% of the 120KM should cater for 95% of the riders. However after 7+ years I also believe that it is more than likely time the 5% get something . Hey?

I think you are unfortunately not reading the whole debate as a holistic picture with it's history

these 95% this, 5% that percentages frustrate me ... it is all thumbsuck percentages/figures until they are tested..... a proper thought out poll should go a long way to achieving this.

now I am sure a member on the committee must be following this thread by now .... so .. what about it?

Dammit, I best get my autograph soon Thermopage!!!!!! Your personality status is something new to me. When did this happen?

More seriously though. We pay that authority a membership fee. One of the highest in Cape Town. So they should be doing the bidding. Otherwise whats the point of a membership?

Hey .... my best friend turns 60 this year, and she can bomb down tech single track faster than guys a third of her age ... she flipping rocks ... so at 50 you are still a spring chicken!

I have seen this lady on the trails & at events & she is my hero, I plan to bombing down the tech trails with my kids at 60, so I'll keep speaking up!

They are completely thumbsuck.

Unfortunately a survey like that is inherently biased (as is this one), BUT...possibly the only way to get some form of data on the subject.

But yes, it woudl go a long way, but the manner in which it is delivered should be designed. i.e. what questions to ask (the ones in this poll are actually quite fair and well thought out) how does it go out, what percentage of the club should answer before the results can be considered representative, etc, etc.

There was mos a survey a few years ago, but the number of respondents was very low.

Anyway, let's hope they are reading ans this is brought up at the upcoming AGM. That will be a good platform to at least come to the committe with some data which one can present to show there are members who would like some more varied or technical/steeper trails (at present it is overwhelmingly positive in favour of).

Hopefully it is clear that nobody is advocating necessarily brand new trails esp from the start as that is a massive expense, but tweaking of existing perhaps as a start. Anyhoo, best of luck to the peeps attending, a know a good few of my riding buddies who live out that side will be.
