I have the Saris H3 and use Rouvy.  Very happy with it - well built and no issues at all.  JHB agents are at the back of Kyalami race race track and are very helpfull- I bought mine direct through them.  I’ve done about 2500 kms with no issues.

Can’t comment or compare to other trainers as I have not tried them.  I think SC Rainmaker does some good comparative reviews.

DC Rainmaker 😁

Just bought a Kikr Snap. Have a Power meter as well so not that concerned around the 1 or 2% accuracy differences between this one and the direct drive options out there.

Will give it a spin but the reviews are positive. Mostly looking forward to the better ride feel and smart capabilities. Had a flow for many years prior.

Did I mention I also have treadmill  for running on those dark icy winter nights…. 😄 but it’s not a smart treadmill, no online compatibility.

For the OP’s original question, I have a powerbeam (Cyclops / Saris) A frame type IDT which I use to cycle on the Rouvy platform, the Powerbeam has been super reliable and I have been using it for at least 10 years without any hassles.

Zwift sell a gadget called a Runn which smartifies any old treadmill. Works pretty well.

The Saris H3 is a great option,

Quiet, reliable, well priced and can compete with the best of them.

Easiest serviceability on the market, takes anyone 10 minutes to swap out a belt and get back to training

So with winter fast approaching I've been considering getting a smart trainer and using it with my head unit or some of the apps out there. What do you have? Which do you recommend? Do you actually use it?

I've been looking at the Kickr core and Saris h3. The Kickr core seems like it might have compatibility issue with my frame and the specs are slightly lower than the h3. So kinda leaning into the h3 but apparently it's not as polished as the kickr (cadence and accuracy). Any other suggestions?
