You reckon danny macaskill is a better mtb rider than Sauser?

Can I consider that the first “seconding” for Cristoph Sauser?

Like I said in the original post, the initial ten names where my pick in no particular order, and I tried to balance it across eras and disciplines, but I will be happy to add sauser, if the initial nomination gets two additional votes

Kinda like asking who's the greatest guitarist of all time. Answer of course, is Bob Marley... My reasoning being that there are more pictures of Bob around the world playing a Les Paul-style guitar than of anyone else (probably). So you should put Joe Breezer on that list

Joe Breeze was photographed playing a Les Paul?

Pointless exercise comparing riders from different disciplines.

Need- XC, DH, Freeride etc.

Brandon Semenuk?

I second this. He's given more wow moments to the sport than anyone else. Plus he stood behind me in the lift line at Chatel (No que jumping) and he was super friendly.

just about everything DM does Sauser cannot do. DM hasn't won the Epic though. As far as being an inspiring rider, DM wins. Must be all the YT likes

Downhill/Enduro/XC/Marathon are so vastly different it can almost be considered to be completely different sports.  I can not agree with lumping them all together.  Selecting a GOAT for each discipline would make a lot more sense.

Weirdly, out of the trials/video fame guys I prefer Chris Akrigg to Danny Mac.

He is less tricksy and seems to animate lines that makes me want to go out and ride my bike.

All of the above have dedicated their lives to bikes. I think that's pretty amazing.

This new fetish of having to declare the GOAT is amusing. I'm pretty sure people have been murdered and families decimated in the CR7 vs Messi debate.

I'm pretty happy to just enjoy all these guys and others for what they bring to the party. Comparing and declaring absolutes is silly

So one “seconding” for Semunuk

Amen, agree 100%.

Question.

Who is the ORIGINAL ACTUAL GOAT

Who is the first person referred to by the sports media as THE GOAT? Irrespective of the sport they practice. It feels like a phrase the American sports media would coin so I'm guessing it's someone like Michael Jordan.

The first person I've heard referred to as the GOAT is Ricky Carmichael.

That crazy truck mechanic went 112MPH on a bicycle not so long ago!

Are you suggesting he should be on the list? LOL

Unfortunately, It seems polls cannot be edited. So regardless of votes, no new names can be added to the poll. So it will now forever remain a list of my 10 recomendations for GOAT….Sorrt guys.

I like how much love Greg is getting, but this was expected, but I must say im surprised by the lack of love many of the other names are getting. Guess that proves how “out of touch” my list of 10 was. I really expected Hans Rey to get some more votes, and im surprised there arent more “ballies” voting for Tomac and the like.

I voted for Minnar because he is home grown, but the two below should be worthy of consideration although perhaps at their peaks a little earlier than some of the current crop.

Both absolute beasts and as they say, those who accomplish much today, do so because they stand on the shoulders of Giants.
