Trying to figure out why they would do this? Surely less stages, over a weekend will equal more demand. No chance I can take 5 days off work.

"WFH" in the mornings - you can log in / be in the office, by 12:00!

So ... I see last year's entrants have a week's window to enter for 2.7k..... what's that meme again? "ooops I accidentally entered another bike race"

How many of the proper rider's who posted here last year are in again? @babseshould possibly be offered a free entry

No harm in asking I guess...

I laaaaik the new (some would say old) format of having the race 5 days before the August. I just hope they get the a bit more creative with marketing and hopefully there will be some sort of coverage druing the event.

The race has the potential!

I'll wear a go-pro if I can get my entry for half price!

You mean weekly email campaigns about how they are inundated with the uptake is not enough?

As long as your harness doesn’t cover the two parachute/numbers on your back!

(okok this year there was no drama regarding numbers…)

what's a proper rider ? 😋

bit early for me, but after last years I thought I'm not doing it again, but now 5 days, all during the week... tempting. But I don't see how with racing during the week and the same price the numbers can increase from last year, meaning 5 vets racing, an elite group full of full time pros... so yeah, probably last minute call

A proper rider in the context of this event is in the elite group, competing.

I'm definitely doing it, costs a fortune as I'm self employed in a field that is entirely about selling my time so I forfeit the income but i feel it's worth it.

I agree shifting it to the weekdays is not a great move and is likely to reduce the field. I hope not though.

Some might feel the new offering is better so same price means better value for money.
Same week as Cycle Tour vs 10 days before might make it more palatable for upcountry amateurs that planned to do Cycle Tour anyway to travel earlier.

🤞 Haven't entered but think I will do the early bird and hope for better participation numbers!

Yes - the week of the Cycle Tour is in theory appealing to the people travelling down for it, that was how it was with the ToGH when it still attracted corporates. Guess with technology nowadays many can get away with half-days leave, ride in the mornings and do some work in the afternoons.

But according to me to make it work they will have to make massive improvements in the appeal of the routes for people to fly down and book 5 days accommodation for this - 5 days around Paardeberg with one hill-top finish in Du toitskloof is not going to cut it. They are going to have to bring back Franschoek pass and Bainskloof at least if this event want to have any chance of growing.

Bainskloof hill-top from the East on stage 1.
Bainskloof TT from the West on stage 2.
Paardeberg loop with Bothma's Kloof stage 3.
Hellshoogte + Du Toit's Kloof stage 4.
Paardeberg rollers stage 5.

I think it could be good.

yeahhhh... replace stage 5 with the old finish up taal monument and I'm down.

that stage 4 I'm also not a fan, on paper it's great, but in reality the almost-neutral all the way from top of hels to pniel kind of  dumbs it down

It's went down many different ways across the various stage hostings / 100 Miler runs. Especially when considering age groups too.
