Was watching a YouTube video. They were building a Colnago with Dura Ace.

The chain that was fitted to the bike was covered in a white powder.

I've never seen this before. Is it a new type of lube?

The mech made no attempt to clean it off, other than wiping the residue off the derailleur.

I believe that these treatments are over rated and not necessary.

It's a normal Chain Underneath.

Money Making Rackets.

So much Wax on the Outside of the Chain ! What for ?

Nothing You cannot Achieve with a good soak of your favorite wax lube.

When you dip your chain in wax do you manage to only put wax on the inside ? 🤣

I've done 20 000km on a single chain with less than 0.5% elongation using standard paraffin wax and a cheap slow cooker. It's neither complicated nor expensive and it definitely faster and cheaper than any chain lube that comes in a bottle.

Me Too, Different Method, Same Result .

Can do it while load shedding.

If You're Clever you can make an Emulsion using Standard Paraffin Wax or Slack Wax or a Mix of Both.

But I can't tell you how !

I scrolled through the video, I saw a ton of excess on that chain yes, but assumed like absolute black the chain came out of a sachet full of that product which explained why it was in that state. I must say they lost me when they started fitting those absolute black brake pads 🤣

Think it's probably a good thing for a first setup to make sure all of that coating goes onto each cog and chainring, then maybe it's worth wiping off the excess. I don't wipe off the wax on the outside of my chains, it just falls off in the first few km on the road
