Why didn't you start a thread and trash them on social media while calling them thieves ?
🤡

I heard on the radio from a lawyer who specialises in this kind of thing. You can get prosecuted for calling people names on social media. Anyone sharing the message could be held liable too. Be careful.

I had a brake bleed. What bag is there to check?

And if i did have a bag, the staff member behind the counter packed it under the watchful eye of the security guard anyway, and i must be searched/checked because of their inefficiencies in not trusting the staff behind the counters anyway?

You say africa is like it is, its because people accept it.

You may, i dont, protracted and all

lets paint a different scenario

whilst you're paying for your brake bleed, bike "safely" parked off to one side, some unscrupulous character casually takes your bike and walks out the door with it, Security is no longer instructed to check receipts, so this person goes unchecked. Would you be happy with that ?

It grates me too that I need all my items checked like a criminal, but I also understand the reasoning behind it.

have dealt with Werner, Jolene and Mark, and a great thumbs-up from me.

Werner is great and Thuli at the till points is great, but Mark at workshop I'll rather not deal with.

Yes, agree with Thuli

When I upgraded my groupset on my mtb it initially started out that the chainring I wanted was not in stock, he told me that he will source it and will let me know as soon as he can find one.

The next day I got a wapp from him telling me that he found one to be in stock at another branch and that it's on its way to him. 24hr later got a message again telling me that it is with him and that I should bring my bike in.

Even during the building process got photos from him with my bike on the workbench being worked one, and message to collect when it was ready.

Guess I'm then just one of the lucky ones...

If its stolen from inside the store by a passer by, then the store insurance will cover it because their security personal on site is not doing their intended job. I do agree it is also my responsibility to ensure that my bike is looked after by myself. In your instance, it would not be 'safely' parked off to one side or even allowed to be taken away from me during the payment process, so I guess its a moot point then, right?

There is no point in being treated like a criminal if the shop systems are changed. Grocery stores dont do it yet they have products which is of much more day to day value than a gas bomb or a tube of lube or a set of brake pads. Heck, i bet the guy that paid for the R56 650 road bike next to me had to endure the same check on his new ride on exit all because they dont trust the personel that assmebled it or rang it up for payment. Shame I tell you

Anyway, Im done. As they say in 'Murica - Happy Tuesday to you

Cyclelab are great with their discounts and integrating with mycyclelife i have saved quite a penny through them. I wouldn’t go there for any advice or take my bike for a service though. The new N1 City branch actually started off well but their service level has slowly declined to the norm.

I'll help you out bud, bring your bike around my place, I'll bleed it for free. But I'm just letting you know I will be checking all your pockets and my dogs will be sniffing your ass to make sure you arent sneaking away with my 10mm and 13mm spanners and sockets.

Thank you for the kind offer. Im not so keen on getting an offer of any sorts to sniff my ass so I'll have to give your workshop a skip.

Thank you again though, one's generosity is always a sign of their intentions. I do appreciate that

You have a good day now

You’ve done nothing wrong.. let them check.. at the end of the day it might not be you stealing ****, but it is someone, and they can’t profile so you either check everyone and treat everyone like a thief or no one at all..🤔

im friendly to them, have my receipt in my hand waiting(builders, CL, wherever).. it’s a quick check and then I carry on with my day, I don’t get treated like a criminal at all🤷🏼‍♂️

I think you are either missing the point of security at the entrances of shops or have not been living in south africa for very long.

The amount of people that tries their luck to steal a bike or anything from the store is outrageous. Role number one for any security guard is treat everybody like a potential criminal and check everyone's slips/bags etc.

For one you could have picked up the bike at the servicing department, all the bikes stands their, walk over to the till, buy a chocolate and walk out as if you paid for the bike and or bike service. The security guard will most likely in such a instance be fired. We are not in europe or Murica but in South Africa where our unemployment rate is sky high. I have bought a bike online from CL as well for my daughter and they also requested to see my invoice which was on email. I engaged with the salesman regarding the procedure and he said to me the amount of chancers they get of people trying to walk away without paying is scary. order online, go for pickup and payment and just skip the payment part.

Well done to the security guard for doing his job

Doing what job well? Ensuring the teller invoiced me correctly? He didnt check ownership at all, thats the service departments job not his. He didnt check the workmanship either, probably didn't care.

I believe its his job to prevent thieves coming in or out the door, not be the back up check to the tellers.

We all know the system is wrong, yet most agree with it. Funny how we get brainwashed into things being right
