I see 709 teams finished stage 1 with 28 individuals that finished alone, so that's roughly 1500 participants every day. Slower riders starting last (can't work around this), they should probably consider doing like W2W with a week for the faster guys and a week for the slower guys so that they can start early and not cook in the sun. The fact that this event gets that kind of attendance at the price that it costs and for what you get blows my mind, especially with a title sponsor like absa. Surely they could make it work for everyone to enjoy their passion without some peope having to go home after two days, or worse, never go home again

!URGENT!

We are implementing a STAGE CANCELLATION AT WATER POINT 3 due to the extreme heat and will be assisting riders being removed from the route.  Riders on route already through Water Point 3 can continue to finish.  Riders between Water Point 2 to Water Point 3 will be removed from route – vehicles are being deployed to accessible  points on the route to evacuate riders.

If you are able to assist with transporting riders from route to race village, please report at the VOC (behind Race Hospital) and we will deploy you.

Please do not make any statements to press or media.

Oops..

For sure.

But an official statement comes with weight and as people have died, there are legal obligations.

I'm not excusing anyone or anything, but suggesting that there is a way things get done here in SA and sharing information without first covering ones backside isn't it.

If you're unfamiliar with 'My only Story' check it out. The lengths institutions will go to protect their image is disturbing.

Pretty sure they are trying to find a suitably immeasurable way to blame the lack of water on something/someone that no one can confirm nor deny etc

TANGENT:

Is this the one that made it to air as "School Ties"?

'School Ties' was a part of the 'My Only Story' series.

Deon Wiggett went pretty deep across a number of destinations and situations

Yeah I didn’t seriously think they rode with cooling vests.

Personally I always rode these kind of events with a camelbac or small backpack, the benefits outweighing the discomfort imo.

What I don’t like is the extra effort it takes to drink (suck) from them, especially if you are riding hard or very fatigued, and then the effort to keep the bladder and tubes clean from goggas 🤢 every day

Don't bottles pick up a lot of dust and stuff like cow ****? 😃

Proper daily rinse with water and toilet paper in Bottom to soak...

Ah ok, my bad. Must be my German sense of humour.

Yea, @babse has his hair in twist because I dared to comment on the number of people that walked the Missing Link hill on the Prologue.

More to the point, I asked how did people CHOOSE THEIR GEARING if they have to walk the Missing link after the first 20km, as there will be much worse hills to come in the event.  But hey, let facts not stand in the way of good gat krap ....

That adds another 72 teams back into the mix, that were at WP 3 and not DNF.

Somebody I know posted a ride (no map, just distance and time) that correlates with WP3. See they received a finish time of more than an hour more than what was posted

Much cleaner than bottles imo. And easier to drink from. The bite valves just open to slight pressure from teeth.

Long term, mould is an issue which I deal with by soaking in Milton sterrinappy at regular intervals and keeping in freezer when not in use.

In the CTCT you see people walking up (is it Edinburgh Drive?) Bishopscourt area....and in last year's YouTube video you could see Epic riders walking down a medium difficulty decent.

You should have to "qualify" to get an entry but think of how much that would affect profit......I pity the riders staying in tents and getting the Epic Delhi Belly gyppos.....

To be fair ... That missing link climb is pretty horrible ... And sometimes has those big humps on it that just hurt so much
