I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who don't need 'goals' to ride?

As my wife often tells people "it's just what he does" .... Rides a bike 6 days a week, any bike

If I were to say why I ride it would be purely physical/mental health and yes it has changed drastically over the more than 3 decades I've been doing it.

You’ve created a lifestyle.. 🤘🏻🥳👍🏻

it helps that he doesnt HAVE to get up at 4am to go ride before work

Actually that also motivates me.. early mornings on the bike with AirPods playing good music.(still heavy but not the heaviest🤣). I find the world to be very empty, calm, quiet, and pleasant for a change.. ❤️

This is true .... Now .... There were years where I did though

It can be done

very much so, and I do prefer it to later in the day, but when you suffer from a bit of insomnia it does start to take its toll

I do lover my early morning rides, preferably in silence though.

even with our group rides, you'll often find me tucked in in the middle in dead silence whilst everyone around is socializing.

For sure, sleep is critical when you're doing it day after day!

I'm fortunately one of those 8-9hrs of sleep no problem 😁

I must have music playing in the background.. all day, everyday..

partially why I’m not a group ride enthusiast🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

I have countdown widgets on my cell phone home screen to all the major events I'm riding in the next 6 months. If I don't ride I don't feel good so I ride as much as possible.

I love the feeling after smashing out a hard effort in a zwift race for an hour.

I love how quiet my head is after 100 mile rides.

hence me starting the thread.

I'd love to do DC, but at this point I'm selling off things just to fund a quick trip to Cape Town for the CTCT, with family commitments and other nonsense happening this year, setting DC as a goal is not feasible. But without any targets / goals I know I'm just going to skip to many training sessions.

Not directed at you Dexter-Morgan

This is a discussion forum, maybe your ideas/thought dont work for me, but they might work for someone reading this thread.

I'd also like to see some input from the likes or @'Dale as I'm sure this touches on his skill set.

2024 started after a succesful Rapha.  Winelands, 99er and then CTCT ... I was very happy.

And then Trans Augrabies got cancelled .... still cant believe just how that took the zest out my training.

Okay, some issues had me back at the biokineticist .... long story short, now on a similar mindset as @JayLow.  Okay, not IM level ...😋

Weekday mornings - a workout before work.

Weekends ... park walk, bike ride, aqua ... often more than one.

My total distance decreased from 2023 to 2024, but my total active time increased significantly.

My goal currently is overall fitness, with the aim to be ready for a 100km event

Regular 4.30 exercises .... most challenging part for me was to adapt to an earlier sleep time ....

Still more consistant for me than exercise after work .... too many distractions

Please tell more about these widgets

My goal is to ride more, buy less…the level of consumerism is weighing heavy on the actual enjoyment of pedalling. Also looking at getting a new venture off the ground called: logmyjunk.com LoL.
