My son's dedicated indoor bike coming together ... 'climb' and 'sprint'  shift buttons to use in MyWhoosh done

Just setting up, bar tape and the single speed thing to do still (32*13)

An old 26" carbon mtb frame with a broken hanger, the 26" fork that came off my steel SSR when I changed it recently

A TT seat that was lying around and some track bars

Up to now I've used my son's Magene power meter crank .... long story but I came into possession of a really good condition slightly older Quark Riken carbon PM crank - PF30 though and this is a standard Shimano external BB frame I'm using on my IDT.

Normally that'd be a 'showstopper' BUT my son told me before that using a DUB BB it could be done. Remove the plastic insert in the BB bearings, remove that 'screw' adjuster goodie on the crank. Adjust with a small spacer and a wavy washer to get the spacing right and Bob's your uncle!

Done and tested 😎

You get an externla BB (screw in BSA) with 30mm inner diameter.  I am running that on my gravel at the moment.
Token, Ceramic Speed and Wheels manufacturing all make one.

Good to know, thanks! Was just interesting that the DUB BB worked, and the fact that he got me a used one to try it out was just a bonus. Serviced it and since it's indoors only it's good enough

Token was "normal" pricing yes.
And their BB's last quite long.

With CeramicSpeed......even with Cyclelabs -80% off I still could not afford it.  😁

Hijacking this a bit, but if there is a separate forum please direct me.

What is the life expectancy on an indoor trainer like a wahoo or tacx?

I bought a new entry level Tacx smart trainer (Flux S) in mid 2021. Have had zero issues to date.

It seems to be a bit of pot-luck ....

My 2019 Kickr Core was sold last month with zero issues.  Then again, low milage and hardly any power from these old knees to push the unit to its limits.

Friends went the Tacx route.  She does a LOT of Ironnman training on it.  He does TransBaviaans training on it, doing many seriously long sessions on it.  That unit WORKED !!!  Granted, clean room, and air-conditioned environment.  Still impressed with its use.

They sold it in good nick when they upgrading to the latest model.

From some threads one might get the impression these units fail when you look at it sideways ... most certainly not the case.

Rough test for a DIY rocker plate.
Some retainer edges for the balls (will provide space to double up on them) will instill some confidence that it is going nowhere.

I literally just grabbed a roughly big enough sheet from the shed and shoved it in under the Kickr and did a quick 10 pedal feeler. Happy it will not ‘walk’ away - front wheel current fixed.

Will try it out on tomorrow morning’s activation ride. Also need to put the road bike on there doe tomorrow morning as I messed around with the saddle position. 😬

Been running a Tacx Flux 2 daily since 2021 - Zwift has me at 60366km logged. Have not had 1 issue with the trainer. Used for proper interval training every week, and still runs like a champ

First Tacx 2 Smart lasted a year (around 500 hours) and started making strange noises. It was replaced under warranty and the replacement started doing similar after 10 hours… Would not recommend.

This was bought to replace my Elite Turbomuin which has probably seen 5-6 times the use and I will again have to get it out of the shed while I wait for the latest outcome.
