they were saying 12000, but not sure if that included the short ride.

very far off the hey day numbers of the past.

That might be so, but yesterday morning in the Cradle it sure felt like 25000 cyclists were at the race.

Might as well have been the rapture it was so quiet!

My 19th amble on the closed roads ... that alone makes the other little inconveniences there might have been of little consequence!

A nice solo effort for me, by choice and it's also the way I like it these days 😎

I have no complaints but could also be because I am not a social coffee/beer rider .... went there did my ride, got my medal and a Pepsi, found my car and went home

God willing my brother will be here again from the land of the long white cloud next year and do my 20th with me

That youngish fellow with the black flat bar single speed, kudos my friend!

This is a long shot.

Did you lose a copper bracelet during the race?

I picked this up on the Kyalami Race Track around 10am yesterday.

Please PM me if it's yours.

The young lad looked strong going up Homestead.

Lots of people pushing up Jan Smuts past the zoo and into Braamfontein.

That last waterpoint with the cones trying to block off the grates was an accident waiting to happen.

Traffic in the morning coming from the West Rand was a nightmare, the 2km odd back up took me longer than the 25km +- to get there.

I bettered my time from last year by 30min from J batch. (I'm sure the tow by the Omie on the e-bike mtb on the highway helped)

Side note: some guys should not be riding near the front of a group if they keep swerving and overlapping wheels.

We were talking about this the past week.

People compete in less events.  And in doing so their bunch riding skills SUCK.
I have been doing this sport for over 30 years now and you can immediately see if someone can ride in 'n bunch or not.
And saying that, I also have examples of club mates that regularly ride in club bunch and still overlap dangerous wheels.
Some people are just not skillful like that

One more gripe "slow pokes" starting in B, C, D, E Batches and then ride in the middle of the road, we passed some like they were standing still, accidents waiting to happen.

100%, saw lots of that too, sometimes it makes you wonder how they got seeded there, becayse if you're good enough to be seeded that far forward (like I was), then even if you'd lost plenty fitness over the year, you should still have the skill / know-how / etiquette to move to the side of the road when you can see you're not keeping up with those around you.

And these are the long route riders, when the short route folks joined in all hell broke loose.

I understand and welcome letting youngsters out there to ride, but when you have unaccompanied 10 year olds mixing it up with long route riders coming past a twice their speed it makes for some "interesting" manoeuvres.

Unfortunately, most of them have not been used as we expected them to be used, so we must continue to inculcate the culture of riding.

yeah, how about making it safer, both from cars and crime , first. Aint no way people are going to want to ride in JHB currently unless its closed roads.

B.T.W. speaking of crime, did anyone gets harassed like previous years in the car parks ? Seemed to me that things were kept under control this year w.r.t. unwanted guests.

One of the self appointed Keepers of the Parking lot, tried stopping me while I was driving out. I just ignored him like a taxi driver ignores a stop street.

There were a few guys hanging around while we were parking trying to get buy in form drivers that they could watch their cars

I saw that, that was after the crash, looked very serious.

I was involved in this crash. Just heard breaks and then suddenly I was on the floor. Wandering if anyone has footage or other 1st hand accounts on what actually happened?

I had a great first Ride Joburg and enjoyed the closed roads and vibe. I will definitely do another one.

I did unfortunately have an unfortunate experience with a guest in the car park that was “helping” park cars and got quite aggressive because I had parked in his area.

I did unfortunately have to pay something to get him to leave me alone. I genuinely was worried about my vehicle and personal safety.

This is the reason I no longer do road races. I did Ride for Sight, 947 and Argus about 6 years ago and have been doing most races since 1999. The standard of bunch riding scares me sh1tless with riders hitting brakes, swerving etc. what's caused the change In wonder.

Hope our support up the climb on Alexander Ave in Fourways didn't go unnoticed?

PS, those that were walking up that gentle incline, you guys were in for a long day.😬 Well done to all.

Me? I might do #10 or 11 next year...
