BuffsVintageBikes Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Is anyone here running Zwift through an Apple TV connected to a TV or Monitor (and paired to your indoor trainer) that can share how well it works... or doesn't? My daughter has hijacked my iMac for her studies and I'm finding it near impossible to use Zwift on my iPhone as I need to wear glasses and I just sweat way too much for that to be practical. So now I'm looking at the next cheapest option available to me and at R3K for an Apple TV gen 3, this seems to be it. Feedback would be appreciated 🙏 Rowl 1
RobertWhitehead Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I can use Zwift on my Apple TV yes. I don't have a subscription to Zwift but Fulgaz works without too many hassles. It connects well, the app has given some issues but not the connection or setup BuffsVintageBikes 1
jannosmit Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Apple TV works great for Zwift! We use a old TV with the Apple tv. Rowl and BuffsVintageBikes 2
cadenceblur Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Apple TV works well. Have used used with Zwift, Training Peaks and Fulgaz. Just make sure your device is as close to your trainer as possible BuffsVintageBikes 1
W@nted Posted May 8 Posted May 8 (edited) I have been using my apple tv with zwift for almost 2 years. Never had any dropouts or issues. Just note the apple tv can only take 2 (might be wrong) bluetooth connections. Then you need to pair the rest using the companion app. This only becomes an issue when pairing zwift controls/smartbike controls/steering etc. I only pair my trainer and my HR monitor, therefore no issue for me. This is my exact answer as well. I only pair trainer and HR and no issues at all. Cheapest way you can get going imo. W@nted and BuffsVintageBikes 2
Tomik Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I used a very old Apple TV but ran Zwift through my wife's new iPad to get around the bluetooth issue. Screen mirroring worked fine - am sure you can do it with your iPhone too. I've also done it with my Android phone using Chromecast to my huge lounge TV. Also worked perfectly. BuffsVintageBikes 1
BuffsVintageBikes Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 Thanks all, appreciate the feedback, it's certainly helped me make up my mind as I have an old 32 inch TV to use as the monitor 🙏👍 I also only need to pair my Elite Suito trainer and HR monitor for now so extra BT connectivity is not needed just yet. I'll continue using my phone for the Companion app 👍
Paul Ruinaard Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Yes it works well. even better if you are uinsg the Aple TV 4K. I have both my profule and my wife's loaded. Remote control can be a little tricky to gte used to but it works nicely. BuffsVintageBikes 1
HG Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I know the question was on Running Zwift, just adding one other consideration. Using an Apple TV to run Rouvy and it works well but had to connect the Apple TV via cable. Wifi was not good enough even with the Apple TV in the same room as the Router. I suspect it is a Rouvy issue with the videos but consider getting an Apple TV with the ethernet port if needed down the line ChrisF and BuffsVintageBikes 2
BuffsVintageBikes Posted Tuesday at 01:10 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:10 PM Just a BIG thanks to all those that gave advice here. I pulled the trigger on an Apple TV 3 gen on Sat afternoon and by Sat evening I was up and riding on Zwift again. Really easy to setup and link to my trainer and HR monitor and playing it through a 32inch TV is just so much better than even a laptop, never mind a phone. All I need to figure out now is how to use the remote effectively for bonus boosts etc. and tidy up the cables 🤙 Ignore the wine, I use it as reward motivation 😉 Kom, jannosmit and W@nted 2 1

W@nted Posted Tuesday at 01:22 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:22 PM Awesome! Glad it is working well for you! Just a note, do not drop your apple tv remote during a sprint for the win... I was using the play/pause button to activate an aero powerup during a sprint and dropped the remote on the floor (Luckily in a silicone case). As murphy would have it, the remote landed on the button and it closed/minimised zwift! I was in the lead with 150m to go in a B class WTRL race. I frantically hopped off the bike to get the remote and open zwift again, only to realise that my avatar paused with 80m to go. Finished the race in 3rd place... That resulted in some aggressive language... milky4130 1
BuffsVintageBikes Posted Tuesday at 01:31 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:31 PM 🤣🤣😂 I'm only laughing so much because I can totally identify with your reaction 😂 I need to put my remote in a silicon case as well, or have a 3D mount printed for it on the handlebar because it's very slick and streamlined and I totally see it slipping out of a sweaty hand 🤙 W@nted 1
