Poenster Posted February 16, 2007 Share Here we go again... Sorry! http://www.thinkbike.co.za/talk/phpBB2/templates/subSilver/images/icon_minipost.gifPosted: Fri 16 Feb, 2007 11:37 Post subject: Cyclist 0 - Biker 5 http://www.thinkbike.co.za/talk/phpBB2/templates/subSilver/images/lang_english/icon_quote.gif HiSo listen to this one. Go for a blast on the bike this morning. I amriding up Nellmapius ext in Centurion, past the Cornwall. I am behind alady driver in a polo, there are a gaggle of cyclists riding in theroad. At this point they are 2 abreast, next moment without looking athird one just whips out and tries to make it 3 abreast, the ladydriver swerves out but there simply was not enough space, she clips himand down he goes. She stops almost immediately and so do I.So these cyclists basically attack this poor woman as she runs overto check that the guy is okay. 4 guys, 1 woman. I intervened and askedthem just to calm down, I saw the whole thing and there is no need toget aggressive. En toe is daar k@k.I am not sure which is the sad part here really the fact thatbravado only comes in multiples or the fact that said cyclists tried towrite a cheque their bodies could not cash. So luckily someone called the ambulance to take the fellows off to thehospital. Now I have to go and lay an assault charge at the SAPSbecause I know they will!! Unfortunately I don't have a scratch on me,no one will believe I was in a fight!!! The lady driver is on my sidethough and will give a witness statement. I am a pacifist at heart but when you are attacked by 5 guys (yes the'injured' one decided to get involved), there is no way to be softabout things.I have a sick feeling that somehow this will come back and be myfault although I sincerely believe I am in the right here. I also feelterrible about all this but surely they were in the wrong? I need somereassurance!
Evan Andreou Posted February 16, 2007 Share Did these guys belong to a club, do they know or say? Maybe it's time clubs start doing some internal policing We do this drag on our Saturday club ride and give the guys hell that don't go single file. There is no shoulder, it's fairly narrow, not to mention the roadworks up at the Pierre v Ryneveld turn off. If this is an unbiased, objective account of what happened it doesn't reflect well on cyclists.
slowpoke Posted February 16, 2007 Share and these are the $%^&s who make cycling dangerous for the rest of us. we seriusly need to figure out a way of naming and shaming this type of idiot cyclist.heck, on our morning rides we go single file whenever a car approaches from behind EVEN on 2-lane sections. that is the law. for a third rider to pull out and make it 3 abreast is absurd and in this instance is it the motorists's fault that the $%^& bought a patch of real estate? NO.
TNT1 Posted February 16, 2007 Share Did these guys belong to a club' date=' do they know or say? Maybe it's time clubs start doing some internal policing[/quote'] Very good idea. If this is an unbiased' date=' objective account of what happened it doesn't reflect well on cyclists.[/quote'] Hah, the motorists can just be thankful OB wasn't there (that was a joke before anyone tries to tear me a new one)

IanJ Posted February 16, 2007 Share Think Bike were the one's that marshalled our protest ride and supported us so well !!! They were very keen on looking at joint safety projects with us, who knows where that will go now.
scotty Posted February 16, 2007 Share Some would say the motorist was at fault for trying to overtake and not following the whole way behind. Not me, but some.

Pantani Posted February 16, 2007 Share Yeah, I had a similar thing happen this morning, was riding behind some guys who were almost 'clipped' and they went 'bos' on the lady driving the car when actually, from where I was she really didn't do anything wrong. The behaviour that followed was appalling, and involved but was not restricted to spitting on her car and snorting snot on her car amongst other things. Then they wondered why I wasn't consumed by the same sense of moral outrage as they were because she almost killed them. Problem was that from where I was they seemed to be at fault, but I was outnumbered and chose not to air that view.
