Hehe, no cool lost.

But genoeg is genoeg, all these positive suggestions are getting us nowhere. It seems that in this country negative actions are needed to get a positive reaction

I cannot really toyi-toyi (bad back and no rhythm) - what did you have in mind?

The first race organiser offering a series of events that all uses the same number.....

That will be the winning formula I think.

Look at the MTB boys.  They got something right!!

You get your number smsed to you midweek. Get a buddy to scan and mail his number to you, or post it on GoogleDocs for everybody to access. Use MS Paint to change the number to yours. Print it. Stick it on your back. Go race.

I am starting a petition: I am not good at writing, please help with first section:

"We the cyclists/runners are forced to drive countless kilometers to some shops in order to collect race numbers not even packs anymore, it is costly and generates unnecessary carbon emissions, in modern society we live in a digital world, lets make this happen to save our planet and the sport. lets get 1 race number valid for your life or let us print our own."

As with his great letter to ASG which got a very positive response I think Ryinc could draft something? I'll ask him.

I am going to fake my numbers until such time that organizers make a plan that doesn't involve me having to drive all over the show, to collect something that can be emailed or even posted, if they want to print it themselves.

I am tired of being inconvenienced for their lack of innovation.

You can board a flight without having to collect anything ffs!!

Yes please - I stand in solidarity with Patch.

Alternative is of course to pitch up with chip and no number but have proof of entry ready.....

You would require a scanner at each batch entry point, how will this affect the entry costs and what about those without chips, with proof of entry whats to stop someone printing 5 copies and handing 4 to his mates.

Probably impractical at the moment, but why not have a permanent number with bar code on it. You are scanned with a hand held scanner when you enter your batch, this will identify if the rider has entered, the number has been duplicated or someone is starting before their start batch. Those without chips will not be affected and TL guys can be accommodated.

I get what you're saying and I'm not encouraging disobedience (entry paid) but surely we can find a solution?

If collecting numbers from syndicated bike shops is aimed at driving up their sales, then maybe at least offer us a 10% discount on our purchases on showing our numbers. They might be getting the sales but we getting sweet FA except the chance to waste our time and money driving around!

Nothing is stopping it, so maybe the organizers should start looking at this before it becomes a thing.

The organizers have plenty of incentive to do this properly....

if everyone is printing their own numbers - now will the organisers now how many collected their ride numbers ?

Loads of people enter rides - but do not collect the race numbers.

Then of course is it the timing chip that says you actually crossed the start line.

Can't we (as in someone that knows how this work) tweet this page to CSA's twitter feed - they are quite active on there it seems...then we all go demand some action..

(I don't know how twitter works really, so I can't do it)

put a unique QR code on the race number board. officials can scan that in using their phone as you arrive at start pen.

have a bogus QR or duplicate one, and you're busted red handed. QR codes are free to generate and readers are free.
