That just proves my point. Specifics always get you into trouble, so be as vague as possible. You might even catch (or is it hit) two birds with one stone, that is if they(or is it IT) wants to be hit (or is it caught).LOLLOLLOL

Why should there be a difference?  Split the categories exactly the same for men & women and offer the same prize money.  If it means the elite men get less then SHAME.  They're getting the bigger salaries anyway 'cause they get more coverage on Supercycling... soooo... how about more coverage of the ladies racing as well... get the sponsors more coverage & they might be willing to part with more money, and maybe even get some new sponsors interested!!!

Its not a womans only issue regarding prize money - there are also some races where the vets (sometimes 40 upwards but mostly 50 upwards)get no prize money either.

I agree, there is no doubt Woman should get equal prize money to the men, and from what I understand here Miss Van Wyk was rather voiceferous about it - GOOD for her, she shows she has backbone  - its about time someone made their voice heard, sadly it seems chauvinism is alive and well in the CSA.

work this maths out

(+tv coverage) = (+Sponsors) = (+ Teams) = (+riders)

we need to get more coverage of the other groups, we only ever get to see the pro's and the finish of the ladies,

What about having less rubush talk on SC, and more coverage of races, Ie . Show more start groups,.

show more Finishes, the pro's and sometimes ladies are not the only groups that sprint to the finish.

when the coverage gets better, the sponsors will come as better value.

when the sponsors are there, more teams and more chances to get a ride.

The better the whole wide worl of SA cycling.

please dont feed me that...if ladies want to be competive cyclists they will RACE in ladies category and not just ride for fun!! the prize money has got nothing to do with it...I mean who started racing because of prize money...you started racing because you love racing

What we are asking for is equal treatment,

At suncity when the mens race came in the commentator was all excited and telling everybody what was going on,Clap

When the ladies came in , he hardly said anything and only told us who the winner was, Big%20smile

when other groups came in he was already sleeping off the beers.Cry

It's a sad case,

Racing Hart: So you're saying that the men only ride to be competitive & not for the prize money... great then take away their prize money & allocate it to the ladies Confused  Trust me the ladies racing WILL improve!

The problem with the womens is that because there is less riders, there's are a number of safe bets in the sport - people who will feature up there most of the time. People don't like a sure thing - TV ratings dropped when Schumacher kept winning, the same goes when Mick Doohan dominated motorcycling.

Get more ladies involved then you're in a much better position to bargain - by quitting that position was weakened

I know this thread's worn out, but Michelle opened a can of worms

Do you realize that 50% of the Elites & u23's racing field know that they will never win a race and get their hands on the prize money. Yet they race  right to the end, trying to achieve personal best/beat the rider next to him etc.

No comments were ever made after a race of the Elites & u23's 'having a picnic' or that the pace was moderate.

If you want to ride license, but not give your best at what you do, the problem is with you, not the incentive.

Agreed, license money should be the same for both genders, but don't even try to compare your license riding with the Elites.

Fester: I don't really agree with you that the Elites / U23 race to the finish once they're out of contention.

Sure that happens in the open groups... but from what I've seen that's just not true of the elites.

Surely if the ladies had better salaries & prize money, more would be able to become fully professional & you would get less "picnicking" as they would be able to put in the training necessary to put in better performances?

Michelle I agree. Organiser just add a stipulation of minimum of 25 riders per category before prize money is paid. Then nobody gets anything as there is hardly a license races with 25 ladies per age cat.

You are not comparing apples with apples. Men simply outnumber the ladies by far.

It is no contest racing [teapartying]nine other girls for the first ten places. Then you still want the same prize money as the men

Speke: I was under the impression that the prize money comes from the sponsors?!  If that's the case then it shouldn't depend on the number of entries per category.  But then don't you organise races? Tongue

here in the cape most of the top women racers are in their 40's. the womens league attracts fields so small that they also don't pay out prize money (less than 6 racers)

Its interesting to read the differant views, but at the end of the day, there should be equality in prize money, I am pretty sure there are races where the men just hang around and sprint the last 200metres as well, I dont for one minute believe its a "womans racing situation only"

In comrades the woman recieve the same prize as the men and again, there are far fewer woman to men in ratios, but nobody is so naive as to believe that any woman who can run comrades and be in amongst the first 200 men finishers is loafing around, same with cycling, it appears most times the woman ride with the mens 40+ age group, this is no tea party, believe me, so if the woman are able to ride here, they are certainly putting in the effort, and the prize should reflect that effort equitably.
