MWNN are you sure about Glen?????

Just wondering this is same person who took all the persons of colour(bar Isaac)from my club in December with the promises of better help to them and to date they are yet to ride in a race.( My personal opinion is he does it only if he can gain from it-Remember Tour de Soweto).

Don't know about that mallo, but certainly a fair point. However, given the topic above, the only reference I can find is Lisa Vermaak, which may go some way to explain Glen's knowledge of women's cycling. Mind you, Robyn de Groot also comes from Bionic.

Please don't bad mouth Erica! She does alot for woman's cycling! It was just a bad mistake which have taken place with the whole selection process. And hey, someone had to take the blame, so she offered herself with the statement that she made in the meeting. I salute her for that!

Isnt Alex Cooper bashing Manriette Schoeman, thats a bit of a conflict of interest. Also remember Dave bellairs also had a thing with Manriette.

Its a sespool this cycling isnt it?

I second that emotion - seems like a brave move the lady has made, so no call for further criticism.

If you accept a job, do it to the best of your abilities. If you cant, because of various factors (not getting paid, live far from the top class racing or what ever else is now coming up), put your hand up and give the job to someone else you can.

Are Erica and Cooper going to the World Champs as managers as well ?

It is a pity you all have been caught as pawns( Sorry Cherry THEY have used you too now..) in a bigger game and am ashamed to be member of The Hub that can slate Erica like that. You have managed to get rid of one ofvthe only persons on any CSA commision that did her unpaid job and tried to better things for ladies cycling. Just some points:

1. Erica had written up an extensive plan to build the Ladies up for 2008 Olympics( not actually the real plan, but seeing that short sightedness is on the order of the day, that was included) and finally with 2012 as a Goal.

2. She was given choices to make based on budget available so to decide order of importance( Worlds 07- where no girl was in with a real medal shot or putting that money forward for a international racing campaign that would actually benefit much more towards the Olympics. One Worlds is not going to lift a TT time with 3 minutes, but ten International race exposures may just well do that) Even if these "rules" were not applied in the end, it was party to descisions leading up to the final selection.

3. One of the men piling on the pressure on Erica at that meeting( also a selector for another category and party to the bigger game) was the one responsable for leaving Hunter and maybe our best prospect, Darren Lill out of the Elite squad and only after huge effort they were included again. But he is not paying for this and shifted the focus very well....

There was a great REAL plan for ladies cycling that excluded the short sightedness of Worlds 07( maybe not communicated well so all understand) that would build up to Olympics without a commercial exploitation advantage to one or other party. This is now gone. I really hope the ones slating and hiding behind aliases will now step up to the plate and come up with something similar.... At least that great girl from the Cape went and stood in front of the crowd to be thrown with stones, even though not much of it is actually her doing....Robbie you are right: It is going to be another ten years from now again before anyone does what you did: Because of the way we as South Africans act...

Erika has never been shy about speaking out.... especially the truth.  It is sad that someone who does so much, always carries the brunt.... those that do nothing, can never be slated..... they did bugger all.

Barry.

Well said. For those of you who make remarks about people on a public forum it might just cost you some money.

Maybe we should get the knowledgeable people like CruxPearl and Chunky to step up to the plate and take over the Ladies Cycling.

I do not understand why ex dopers have so much too say

I think there's reeeaaaaalllyyy something fishy going on!!!!!

I read in this month Ride mag last night, Erica Greens comment on Ronels win at the SA's!!! anyone else think that this excuse is a cover up???

maybe all selectors should be based in Gauteng. so lets here who you recommend to do the job and while you are about it nominate who is your candidate to run CSA the way u want it to be run.

First - a big thank you to the guys and girls out there who have been defending Erica. She is one of the few people in SA who gives a damn about women's cycling.

Second - how about leaving provincialism out of it. If you want to base the selectors where our best are racing, which seems to be the argument behind having them based in Gauteng, wouldn't we be better served by having them based in Europe? Evil%20Smile

It is sad that two of the most likeable and geniune ladies in cycling are targeted and abused essentially by a bunch of ego driven men. When the ladies work hard and perform, us men are quick to claim part and 'ownership' to this, but when the sh*t hits the fan we the ones stoning the girls. Cut the act, we no better than some of those countries with no right to woman. We just do not write it on paper...

Big Mama, Thank you very much for your reply.

The acknowledgement about me being very knowlegdable is very correct. I would however like to point out that I dont actually blame the people in question, but the system in place (Or rather not in place).

I know Erica Green very well, and I have no problems with her at all. The problem lies with the process that she has been forced to use, that is adjusted accordingly to who needs to be selected at that particular time.

I do admit that I am one of those people shouting from the sidelines at the moment. I have been involved in cycling for maaaaaaaaany years and I have seen this process over and over. That is the reason for my scheptisism at the moment. Its been the same for the last 20 years.

Cycling in South Africa needs a complete face change. Perhaps Lawarance and Dave have done an excellent job wiuth the Argus and other similar type 'Fun' rides, but they have no clue about real racing.

Andrew Maclean, Tony Harding and a few others would be able to get the ball rolling in the right direction in my opinion. But again, they have already tried working with the current CSA system and both got out as soon as they realised it was a hopeless task.

So, why dont you get involved and make a contribution. I have certainly made mine. LOLLOLLOL
