You know it's a myth that if a tick bites you and it is still on you that you need to remove it with its head still in tack. I got bitten last year this time and I frantically went around looking for something to remove it with and then phoned the doctor and he told me to just flick it off. To this day nothing has happened to me.

If you go to the 4x4 shops or outdoor shops you get those tick collar but bangle/bracelet looking things! Maybe try one of those? Otherwise the same shops may have some kind of a spray you could use.

Generally you can spray doom on your jeans if you hiking and they don't dig it. Onto skin may noy be such a hot idea though....

What about rubbing tabard or similar on your legs before you go ride?

Also, the little critters only carry the tick bite fever strain at certain times of year - check when they are and just be careful and check once you have finished your ride. Other than that beer makes most problems go away - vast quantities naturally

When I was at Veldskool many many years ago my mate was worried he had a tick in his arse crack. Turns out it was a dingleberry..... we still tease him to this day.

Savlon or Dettol rubbed into the lower legs - works like a bomb

had it twice.... first time about 9years ago, got back from the Transkei with a few weird looking bite marks. Suspected that much coz we found a few of these red little pests in our tent....anyway, thought I will try tough it out and then maybe become immune! Yah, didn't work, almost died...or at least it felt like it. Had to go see the doc eventually. A few years later got bitten again, went to the doctor with the first signs of a symptom!

And...um... aah... check behind your ball sack whilst showering. The buggers tend to like the climate and easy living there. Found one there a week after I got back from Voortrekker Kamp back in the 90's.

Mampara we know that the actaul head of the tick does not give you the fever , BUT I suppose you had a very lazy tick that bite you . You DO NOT want that head left behind under your skin as it will cause infection . And a simple flick of the finger will normally cause it to stay behind . So if you do happen to already have a tick on you that has made itself at home don't pull , flick or man handle the poor bugger . Smother it with love by covering it up with vaseline . Even these little critters need some air from time to time and when it does try and breath you may dispose of it . But that is what I would do , so don't try and find this in a medical journal !
