Assos Chamois Cream is most certainly the best, we ride almost everyday at least 60km+ MTB and I never had any problems....but it's quite expenses though. You might be able to get a sample tube from your local bike shop free of charge which will last you for more than 3 days.

Jajija (spelling something like that)....Bovine milking balm available at DisChem....good for the cows good for your ass. In yellow and black tubs of 500ml for about R70. Pictures of cows on it.

Melk salf? What is its normally used for?

Melk koeie daarmee....

Works well. The Sani2C guys put it out by the buckets to the funriders....no double dipping allowed!

That said, on a stage race I'll use Mark II. Works very well.....but in essence much of the same compared to speensalf/melksalf. Buyer manufacturer.

Mark II does work well, but it is water based I think, where speensalf is (oil) lanolin based, so it can withstand being "washed away" by the sweat a bit better.

Seriously. Use Assos. Its the Ferrari of bum creams.

Yes.

Got anti-bacterial properties which will take care of your bum and, thus, your performance.

I do not use anything else...

Bayer - Milko balm. Same price as Assos - the tub is bit bigger though. Teammate laughed at me initially- On day 3 he peeped out of his tent and said - "Kan ek bietjie van daai melksaf van jou leen" The rest is history

Go to the Agri store and ask for: Melksalf lig-pienk. Costs R35 for a tub, and works magic! Just apply a big amount.

+1 Yup!! Pure lanolin....goodness from the sheeps wool to your butt...

That's probably the main ingredient in the Assos cream as well...@ 10x the price!!

+1 , Also someone mentioned Bepanphen nappy rash cream which is great if you have to treat chafe marks. There is a cheaper milking cream which is called MADAJI ( Yellow container) but Bayer Milko balm is `richer` as it contains lanolin. Both contain Chlorohexedine which is an antibacterial agent. No need to add any Bactroban. Obviously Assos is lovely but it` very expensive.

PS : I wish they would redesign the Milko balm container as it is a bitch to get your hand in when the contents are almost depleted.
