  1. Based on the route profile, the climb round about 58km is going to hurt if you dont climb well. So first thing I would recommend is that you don't get to carried away by the excitement. You have to pace yourself. The last 35 doesn't look to bad. So if you manage to get past that big climb with lots left in the fuel tank, you can go hard to the end. Second thing. Make sure you take on enough fluids. You don't want to de-hydrate, that will spoil the whole experince for you. At least a 750ml bottle every 2 hours. Also, eat something regularly, at least every hour. Thirdly. Make sure you can change a tube, I know this sounds stupid, but there are so many people that are just clueless. And carry 2 spare tubes with you.
  2. What distance are you doing?
  3. Man that sucks, Good luck with the recovery.
  4. How tough will this race be?
  5. I moved from 3x9 to 2x10 about two weeks ago. At this stage I must say I prefer it. With regards to climbing, I haven't noticed much of a difference and yes I have ridden some really hard hills in the last week. If anything, I have been climbing slighty better without traditional granny gear. The main area where I have experienced an issue is on the top-end speed. For me it was an easy transition seeing that I do alot of road cycling and actually much prefer the ratios you have on a road bike. I recon 2x10 is the way to go.
  6. The SL2 is an awesome bike! Best bike for the money in my opinion. But then again I am biased.

    Teak place

Apparently they are opening some new trails on the property next door or nearby. Some of the trails will be closed, but the restaurant will stay open. But like I said, this is just what I have heard.
  8. I have found that anti-histamins definately causes my heart rate to be higher. I have found that I have to stay away from it for about 8 - 10 hours before a race or really hard training session other wise my heart rate goes crazy.
  9. Set my alarm to get up early this morning inorder to get to gym for a change. Just couldn't drag myself out of bed
  10. Theres some here: http://www.africapixs.com/shop/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=57&vmcchk=1&Itemid=57 Looks like the 70km race. Hopefully they will still load the 40km photos.
  11. +1 for Westrand Cycles
  12. There was definitely a stuff-up with group F on the 35km. I started in group C and wasn't riding that slowly . But then all of a sudden we had most of group F to pass . This really messed things up when we got to some of the more technical obstacles.
  13. Y = Start time 7:34. Started in the last group of the day last year. 10:00 . So I am pretty happy.
  14. You can also try Westrand Cycles. I know they go every year. Ask for Eben. The number is 011 955 4342.

    What front tyre

I run the GEAX Mezcal(back) and Saguaro(front) combo. It works really well for me. In my opinion you cant go wrong with them.
  16. Ha-Ha. I actually saw this yesterday. They wont have to match any prices EVER with all those terms and conditions. But atleast it looks good on the website.
  17. Great, I will do that. Thank you
  18. It will be the weekend of 12 February. Thanks for the reply anyway.
  19. Hi I will be down in Howick for the Midmar mile (my wife is swimming, I am not) in Feb and need to do some training on the Saturday. I was wondering if there are any group rides in this area on Saturdays (Road or MTB) or if anyone could suggest any safe mountain bike trails in the area that I could ride. Thanks
  20. International: I really liked Pantani. I loved the way he climbed. And definately Lance. People can say what they want, but he was something special. Local riders: The Beneke Brothers and Mr Cyclelab, Andrew Mclean.
  21. It was my first time riding Babas Lodge. Man that mud was CRAZY!! But all and all a good ride.
  22. I also sit infront of the TV. Only way to do more than 10 minutes in my opinion.
  23. I rode at NF today with a friend. We did about 30 km between 12:30 and 14:30 and didn't see any of the security guys there. Last week we did the same and the security guys were all over. Thats not cool. I was really hoping that all these issues had been sorted out.
  24. I dont think the goodie bag is the issue. They actually said that there will be no goodie bag before the race. At least we got a cap at the finish. But the expo was really bad.
  25. I struggled to pass him on one of the hills. The man climb relatively well. (And I climbed really bad). He is a monster doing that distance on a uni-cycle. Well done to him.
