  1. In the ladies race Jenny Close also extending her lead to +-1,5hrs over Carien Visser. She is already past RV2. Will be interesting to see if Carien takes a bit of a break at RV2 or carry on to try and minimize the damage.

This is nuts. 18 hours in

    Drikus 470km

    Thinus 431km

    Willie 427km

    Hansie 415km

If he can keep this up we have a new record! I might actually be able to go watch him cross the finishline over lunchtime tomorrow haha.

Approaching 200km its very early to judge.

I think Drikus is going too hard, Willie is the dark horse but inexperienced at this it will count against him this uncertainty - and his plan not to sleep hmmmm.

Thinus - too young his also not known for this distances. David is good but 800km to go still...

To me they all playing into the hands of Hansie.

Thinus has Top10ed in the last 5 or so Mungas if I'm not mistaken.. he knows what he is doing..

  4. Drikus is not waiting for anyone! Already 10km up the road from Thinus, Hansie and Willie in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Looks like they are more or less sticking together for now.

can you remind us plebs here. who has podiumed (or top5) previously and riding this year?

Martin Fryer won last year, Hansie third. Hansie won 2020.

Thinus Redelighuys "won" with Benky in that kumbaja year.

Willie Smit is new but has solid racing pedigree and started the Smurfy500 events..so he loves these long distances.

Drikus is also new, but an endurance gravel specialist from Nam and has basically won everything over 300km he has entered in the last couple of years, including 36One in record time.

Chris van Zyl was third in the year Ramses set the 50hr record.

    Drikus Coetzee

    Willie Smit

There is the battle for top spot. I reckon Drikus will come out on top.

And in the ladies field it's going to be hard to bet against Jenny Close. She has put in some solid work these last couple of months.

  7. I don't see a topic for this year's Munga yet?

Anybody seen the start list yet?

    Contenders to watch?

On social media I see Willie "Smurfy" Smit is lining up! Should be fun dot watching how he goes. He must certainly be in it to win it..

Seeding seems a bit odd though.
Very happy/surprised to have been seeded in A Batch

I never understood K2C seeding.. As a rookie in 2018 I got seeded in A with only a few kerk bazaar races that happened to use Racetec as timing partners. Rode a 5:45 that year. Whole day long people were overtaking me..it was demoralizing to be honest. Definitely ended last of Batch A. And since then I still get seeded in A every time.. at least now I think I can kinda keep up with the back of the A bunchers.

Skipping the pub again this year. We stayed in Vleesbaai last year and drove through at 4:15 for the race. Worked quite well as a long weekend away at the beach with a quick race thrown in on the Sunday morning. Doing that again this year.
