    Who remembers?

Who remembers? The good old days...When your car was multipurpose...
  2. A few months back I had to take my dog to the vet....I left around 8am so the roads were quiet... I took the back way to the vet as its an easier drive with less stops and corners and less chance of my dog feeling even worse... Came up to a 4 way stop...Saw the road was clear....except for one cyclist...still far enough away to stop...No problem. So I pulled away...But this dunce doesnt stop. I just hit the brakes in time and this muppet swerved, shot past me...hit the curb sqaure on and did a OTB in a spectacular fashion... I jumped out of the car and go check on the guy,,he is OK, bit winded and some scrapes etc but ok..Relief.... Then I Looked at the bike....NO BRAKES...not front...not rear...No brake handles or calipers...nothing. Front wheel still Ok though! I gave the moron a piece of my mind and left...I could have been in serious legal crap (in adition to a damaged car) if I had connected with him even though he had no brakes... Damn those wannabe roadies..... Not always the cars you need to watch for....
  3. Lol...and those shirts....
  4. Its to be hoped you like coffee.....!
  5. Woman arrested in hit-and-run involving Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood Paige Bergman arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving serious bodily injury https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2021/03/18/volusia-county-sheriff-mike-chitwood-hit-while-riding-bicycle-in-port-orange/
  6. What makes me laugh with some of these race fees is the amount of work that gets done on the trail... ie just about none. We have several races in this area...year after year....same organisers...same boring routes...The trails/routes never get any attention (great trail up at a local hotel that is now pretty much going to ruin, hotel not bothered either after paying around R5k a kilometre! Lol) and it seems the race organiusers do as little as possible for the best possible return...
  7. Those old small hard drives have great magnets in them!
  8. 2 KILLED IN SAAF MUSEUM PLANE CRASH AT SWARTKOP AIR FORCE BASEIt's understood that the single-engine aircraft, known as a Patchen Explorer, was approaching the runway when it crashed and burst into flames. https://ewn.co.za/2021/03/17/2-killed-in-saaf-plane-crash-at-swartkop-air-force-base

  11. Took a late afternoon ride yesterday....I opted to go a way I havent been since early Jan...Pretty overgrown....... I also forgot all about this time of year and my favourite weed....the BlackJack...|
  12. Its kinda put me off carelessly bombing down rocky hillsides...
  13. What about those Chaoyang ones? Or Vee tyres? Or the Maxxis Crossmark? I have had the 29er Vee tyres and had no issues with them.

    Lube that

I use a general wheel bearing grease for the various bearings and seat post....Tub lasts about 4 years odd....BUT I also have cheap cup and cone Shimano hubs , cheap M520's....cheap headset I also dont subscribe to the fancy and expensive oils MUST be used train of thought...Main thing as you will know with maintenance is to be ontop of things and repair or replace before the costs start to add up.... BUT again I have a cheap (well, thats relative) RS Recon fork....(Still gets serviced and looked after though...no excuse to leave things to get worse and crappy just because its not a fancy pants R15k fork...Even 'cheap' bikes are expensive these days!) Same as the Fox/RS suspension oils....Can get the same weights for 1/3 of the price at your local motorbike shop with Motol or others...Used these oils in both Fox and RS forks/shocks with zero issues.... Remember as well, unless you are servicing a lot of bikes, no matter what you buy it should last you quite a while... Unlike a nice bottle of whisky......
  15. Would have been nice back in 1987 as well... Dundee is on track to become a hub of BMX racing, thanks to the building of a new facility adjacent to the airfield. Local rider Justin Dekker, who has represented South Africa at the BMX World Championships, has been sought out by the KZN Cycling Trust to oversee the building of four new tracks in KZN. Justin, who matriculated at Dundee High in 2017, has completed tracks in Ixopo, Matubatuba, Ulundi and now Dundee. The tracks are more or less the same length, about 300 to 400 metres, but the jumps and layout vary. Supported by Endumeni Municipality and the Department of Sport & Recreation, hopes are high that the Dundee track will become a centre for the entire Northern KZN area as youngsters are encouraged to compete in the sport. https://northernnatalnews.co.za/329997/dundee-kzn-bmx-racing-track-to-open-in-dundee/?fbclid=IwAR3OuKsV1w0y9AcEjQh-Y1nobEbzrhrs-yuXiQGbuZuA_QdM_wZpOj0ZCFA
  16. A client who I do work for has now been robbed twice in two weeks....both times only the computers were knicked (inside job in my opinion)....you reckon something like this hidden away in a lap top or desktop could be of use?
  17. Hope they catch the person... This should carry a mandatory 3 year sentence righ off the bat for fleeing the scene....
  18. Ja, heavens above....dont try and stick to the rules of the road....
  19. Or if you have an obstacle in your lane, then you apparently have the automatic right of way to come into my lane...no matter what speed I may be travelling at....
  20. I think Cape Multi Tools also used to bring these in?
  21. You need to ignore that bike at Makro/Game then.... Its a bit of a shelp but remember, part of the fun is doing some homework before you buy the bike... You will learn a lot. My friend had a Raleigh dual sus bike, picked it up for a good price and he thought he had a bargain..After one flattish race he said it was the only bike he has had to keep peddling downhill to keep going...Weighed a metric ton...!
  22. Whats your budget? And your expectations once you have a bike.... I know money may be tight all round but after making an expensive purchase myself (not bike related for a change!) I do now subscribe to the buy once, cry once adage...Try not to have to buy something 'twice'.... And remember you still need a helmet and a few other bits and pieces to help you get going....
  23. I think its just a matter of checking and cleaning things when the annoying 'click' shows up... Seat Post Saddle Rails BB fitting Crank blade bolts Pedals Cleats Stem and bar Fork and fittings Gear & brake cables/hoses And my favourite was a broken rear triangle on a DS bike...but that also caused shifting issues in addition to the strange noise it made...Didnt notice this terminal injury till I got home!
  24. My odd noise a few weeks back was the headset bearings... Naturally the last thing I checked and cleaned....
  25. Spent most of the morning on Reddit...I find it great for IT related stuff...
