  1. And then I read crap like this and wonder why we are struggling away and pretending its not so bad here....I though this one had a brain but it looks like I am wrong... Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Eskom on Thursday and described the under-strain power utility as a “glorious company”, its CEO said. “The deputy president referred to it as a glorious company,” Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona told reporters in Johannesburg. In the same briefing, Matona warned that there would be no end soon to load shedding, or scheduled blackouts. “This is a pattern that Eskom is going to find itself in for some time to come.” Matona said he had been with the company for three and a half months. “I have come to understand much more deeply the nature of the problem and what is required to deal with it. “We know what the problem is [and] we know what solution is required to get out of the situation that we find ourself in, as Eskom and as a country.” Eskom is like a car that has not been maintained, Matona said. “The metaphor of a car is very useful. If you continue to drive a car without maintaining it, it will carry you but at some point it breaks down. “I think this is what is happening with many generating units at Eskom.” Eskom has had a “maintenance philosophy” but it did not always stick to it. “Eskom has not stayed faithful to that maintenance religion for a very, long time. The reliability of our equipment is the price we are paying,” the CEO said.
  2. This is just ridiculous....
  3. Roaming the 'berg.....the Magaliesberg....!
  4. In there for the 80km....! Have done the Mini Monster and 2 Big Monsters on a HT, looking forward to my comfy Trance taking a beating this time!
  5. Today we gave 'Lucy Lu' a new home, she was a shelter dog who has been looking for a home for many years (and I dont know why as she is really quite a cute dog now she has had a bath and a good brush). A Collie X something (spaniel maybe?). Although she will never fill that space in my heart where old Sabastian was, she will now have a new chance in life just as Sabs....Life moves on and we do what we can do to help others along the way. Animal or human.
  6. All 6 of mine sleep indoors. Thankfully I work from home and often sit outside so I don't have too much of a worry during the daytime. These days they are used to final P&P's at 9pm and then if they want to (seldom!) they get up with me at 5am. However most are happy to carry on sleeping! Only my old boy who passed away a few days ago would get up and come outside with me. I guess its an age thing! But a friend had a window broken at the far end of home and poisoned meat was thrown inside, sadly her dog died on the way to the vet so I guess having them inside is also no sure thing but you can only do what you can do to protect them. I would love to put some of that two step in some pap and gravy and feed it to these lowlifes....
  7. Today we said our final goodbye to Sabastion. He used to belong to a hubber who was going through a divorce so we took him in just over 3 years ago as a foster but then we couldn't let him go. He was a sad old soul when we got him, not very receptive to attention but over the years he went from a dog who absolutely hated the water to one who would go and swim in the middle of the pool (dam!) so you had to go in and fetch him and he truly loved a a snuggle in the bed in winter. We took him for his check up this morning (he had a heart condition so every 3 months he went for his check up) and he had a heart attack in the consulting room. The vet tried to save him but you just know when its time to let go..... Goodbye old Farty, may those tennis balls never stop bouncing for you wherever you are now....
  8. Magalies mountains this morning, we had about 3mm of rain last night so the air is nice and clean again for a day or two.....
  9. Saw this on FB this morning: Jaco Oosthuizen added 8 new photos — with Sanri Oosthuizen at Centurion Residential Estate & Country Club. Hi all friends and family. Some of you know what happened to me over the last few days and others not. This is just a quick overview: On Sunday 14 Sept 2015, I went for a recovery MTB Ride after an awesome Crater Cruise on Saturday. About 5kms from my house in the open area in front of Cornwall Hill, two black males attacked me very unexpectantly. I fell off my bike and they forced me onto the ground. I did not know whether they were armed or not and did not resist. Told them they can take everything. They tied my hands behind my back and then told me to walk into the bush. I asked why and told them to just take the bike and let me go. They then blatantly told me that the bike does not mean anything and that today I am going to die. I then moved back to the road and the cable ties broke loose. They started to assault me and hit me with rocks against the one side of my head and back of my head. Luckily I still had my helmet on. They were like animals. I am not sure how long this pursued (probably 5 to 10 minutes) - will spare you the detail. They then suddenly ran for the bike and left me. Closeby two guys were also cycling and they had a vehicle / kombi with them (George and Schalk). They assisted me to get home and to Emergencies at Unitas. The staff helped me immediately, went for Cat Scan and luckily I had no skull fractures. A lot of stitches later, I went into surgery to clean all the wounds (really awesome deep sleep for an hour) and then went to high care for the night to get my kidneys clean from all the toxins (fight and flight). Monday AM I was declared fit to go except for swelling in my left hand. This turned out to be a small fracture. I went home Monday PM. The swelling is now almost back to normal. I have a nice blue eye and yellow skin, but think my mind is back on track. Had some trauma councelling yesterday. I would just like to thank everyone for their assistance and support during this experience. In particular Thanks to my wonderful wife Sanri Oosthuizen and kids and family. My best friend Willem Groenewald and his family for being there for me and Hannes Viljoen for getting the medical stuff sorted and caring. There were so many people that sent best wishes and made food for us this week. Outsurance was awesome to help sort out the claim. Everyone at work (MMI / Momentum / Metropolitan / Multiply) were extremely supportive. Thanks to everyone. During a time like this you obviously reflect a lot. All I can say for now is that we need to live each day to its fullest and appreciate our family and friends. I am glad to still be here. Please do not send me stuff about 'this might be some sort of test for me and I need to learn from it' - that is total crap. I will obviously learn from this, but it was a chance event. We should not let things like this infringe on our right to freedom and make us live in fear. I will make use of this opportunity to see how we can make our country a safer place, or rather go. The freedom and safety of my family is very important - even more after such an event. Thanks again everyone.
  10. Are the pistons fully retracted? Or is one sticky?
  11. Whatever cheap SPF 40+ I can find in the shops I use at home and I keep a sunscreen 'stick' in my camelback to top up with.
  12. I am pretty much vegan, went vegetarian almost 2 years back and vegan at the beginning of this year. I don't feel any adverse effects when it comes to my cycling. If anything I don't get that bloated and heavy feeling when you eat meat (digestion takes some time). I did it primarily for ethical reasons as well as the fact you do not know what is in your food these days, especially high growth products such as meat etc (if you have the balls for it do some reading on the dairy industry as well, the most disgusting of all). I get a lot of crap for being this way (but if I need to drink coffee with milk in it etc I don't make a song and dance over it!) and funnily enough the stupid comments are generally by overweight and unfit people. I just tell them there is a spare bike in my office and they are welcome to come for a ride and see just how 'lethargic' and 'sick' this vegan really is....!
  13. Nice, when I had a broken frame replaced by another brand I had to foot the bill for a rebuild AND a new BB!
  14. Zero accountability in South Africa no matter what the crime these days....
  15. Clyde (Fluffy!) helping me on the trail...
  16. So if you have a M775 would it be advisable to buy a spare one just in case?
  17. Simply do some homework, there are other MTB forums out there so if an answer on The Hub is similar to the ones you find elsewhere then it should have some credibility. Common sense should prevail though. Telling someone to put Q20 on their brakes discs/pads because they squeak is an example....!
  18. I had this issues on one watch and it went away when we put in a new battery. On the second one after fitting a new battery it still had an issue and we took it to Garmin who basically said we shouldn't have put in a new battery as its so complicated only they could do it....anyway we wound up getting a new watch as it was still under warranty.
  19. A friend had the black panther extreme on the front and took quite a hard fall oneday (granted he was mucking around as well). So he wound up swopping it for a Nevegal with me! I now have it on the back and so far it seems not a bad tyre, quite slow wearing and grippy.
  20. Why don't the cars that the follow the cyclists use those LED boards in the back window so you can let people know there are cyclists ahead, please slow down? If something looks more official people tend to be more calm I think?
  21. That doesn't surprise me, we get a lot of off road riders here who ride where they want. These guys have no licence plates so there is nothing you can do about it!

I think that's why some brake lever manufacturers for motorbikes have a 'ball' end on the brake lever?
  23. A MacGuyver fix for you!
  24. If only one pad on one side is wearing you should try and clean around the pistons so that both can extend and retract the same amount.
  25. I bought some cheap anatomic bibs, around R399 I think they were but after 6 months of use (5 days a week), the lyrca has become quite see through. I also bought some Indola baggies for R500 and the padding is now looking a little threadbare but I will remove that soon and use my old bibs under them now. The outer material is still looking good after 6 months of use. But I do think they may be a bit warm for summer use.
