Good start this - cross reference it with Bikeradar, if possible. Imo - you must keep in mind that many of the users of mtbr.com, are potentially more prone to complaining that what we might be used to , so you should place things in context...

So here be a lesson in not shopping on CRC when it's very late... Shortly after going through all of the above again - I made up an order on CRC, decided on going with the Hope 31.8mm (as per my FD clamp size)... and then bought/ordered the 28.6mm... I mean seriously, wtf? I'm over it now - tried to cancel, but by the time I realised my error, it was already despatched. R200 - so no biggie - will pop it up on the Hub, in the unlikely event that someone might need it, and will then send it back for an exchange... Though - it will probably end up costing more, so might just use it as a key-chain...

Bos - I have the XT M770's.... I reason them to still be in good nick, purely because I'm lucky enough not to rub up against the crank when I pedal! Regardless, I'm keeping the XT's for the Unicoi, and have just purchased the LX for the SS... Which blows, naturally. Your timing sucks - I placed the order for the LX last night! Do me a favour and hang on to them for me, I'm pretty sure I'll come find you later in the year, in an effort to persuade you to sell them to me!

Thanks MT - I've been forced to find a new crank - having gave away my old one a few years back... Picked up a new LX Deore (M542??) for cheap cheap - so I'll see what I can manage with it... It has an external BB, no? Hmmm - will check... As for the ring - will presumambly simply take off the inner and outer blades - and then worry about a replacement when I kill the middle one... Oh, but please clarify the BCD? Diameter(??) of ?? For future reference Can't wait - not much longer now. Should have the new frame up and running at the end of Feb - and will then start building up the SS... Still need to arrange a post and headset. Wheels will unfortunately have to start off tubed - but figure my first rides are going to be on the tar in any event!

That's in the pipeline Rouxtjie - can't be bothered to find it now, but ADMIN popped up a post a while ago for suggestions about the classifieds section - and most of the above should be incorporated, in some for or other - towards the end of February(??)

I'm inclined to agree with this - although I've also put my 2 cents in regarding the proposed revising of the Classifieds section... I've yet to be burned badly (barring the odd difference of opinion as to what "good condition" is) - but then I've yet to spend more than several hundred rands on one item... When the day comes that I'm willing to part with a few thousand - for wheels/frame/bike - I'm going to be darn sure I'm completely comfortable before taking the plunge... That being said - recent incidents suggest that things got as far as telephone conversations, and all appeared to be cool. If the seller is a calm and collected scammer, then I guess the only way to avoid grief is person to person. If you can't do the latter, due to geographical constraints - then fall back on Hubber references and the like - otherwise bite the bullet and hope!

Cuts both ways I guess - R50 and a fake id to gain 'legitimacy' on a site - could be like manna from heaven for some scammers?

Hello all, I'll probably be needing to service the fork this year. Anyone from Paarl/Stellenbosch/Cape Town are that recently had theirs in at the LBS, to be sent off for a service? Assuming nothing major was wrong - how long did it take from drop-off to pick-up? I'd like to start making plans etc...
