  1. I have the image attached it the one i got off their website? that steep hill right in the middle looks like its new from last year, just all the profiles around are so different scale wise that its hard to compair
  2. has the 80KM route changed from last year, does anyone who rode with a garmin have a profile or route marked out on google earth so that one can compare to the one that is posted on the race website? namely this one
  3. just leave it and add some more fresh/new sealant, put the tire back on inflate and enjoy riding your bike. i really dont think there is a way to get that stuff off the inside of your tire its like dried glue and most things that would remove it might delaminate or damage your tire (please correct me if im wrong as i'm sure hub style someone will of i'm wrong).
  4. I'm still amazed that this guy has not succumb to lead poisoning yet
  5. ok cool thanks for all the info was only expecting to get a reply tomorrow morning sometime
  6. ok i've just taken a look at the satellite photo's of the route looks like district road all the way, when you say only a 4x4 will make it over is that because of the gradient or is the surface something totally else, like something similar to sani pass? and just looks smooth on the satellite pictures
  7. just a quick question, how safe is the route in terms of rider numbers? ie: will a group of 3 or 4 be fine or should one rather have larger numbers and second, and second would a back up vehicle be able to follow the riders?
  8. thank you for the link will send you my e-mail now, thank you and thank you for the link as well. now at least i know where breedts nek is that i've heard about
  9. I have heard about breedts neck a few times now, am new to cycling (well sorta, started last year) have been looking for information about it but cant seem to find much? does anyone have a route map that they've got from their gps or something along those lines? sounds like a nice ride or at least from what i have herd? and any other info like where to leave cars that they will be safe etc. thanks in advance for any info
  10. my sincere condolences to the friends and family left behind
  11. who is presenting the talk out of interest? and what is his/her background with cycling?
  12. get him a 26" bike if he is big enough? or maybe new tires that fit tighter on the rim for the conversion if getting them to seal and seat on the rim is the problem?
  13. a big thumbs up to the idea
  14. ok ok i'm not a physicist lol.. here is the wiki extract i found "The reduction of friction termed brake fade is caused when the temperature reaches the "kneepoint" on the temperature-friction curve. [All brake lining is cured under mechanical pressure following a heating & cooling curve, heating the friction material up to 450°F to "cure" (cross-link) the phenolic resin thermoset polymers: There is no melting of the binding resins, because phenolic resins are thermoset, not thermoplastic] In this form of fade, the brake pedal feels firm but there is reduced stopping ability. Fade can also be caused by the brake fluid boiling, with attendant release of compressible gases. In this type of fade, the brake pedal feels "spongy". This condition is worsened when there are contaminants in the fluid, such as water, which most types of brake fluids are prone to absorbing to varying degrees. For this reason brake fluid replacement is standard maintenance." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_fade
  15. well the only way i think that air could be a factor, is if the brakes weren't bled properly and the heat could possible cause the gas in the bubble (already there before) to expand, other then that to convert the brake fluid from its liquid form to a gas form would take quite allot of energy/heat i guess? come on Johan i know you want to give us the nice technical reason that one experiences brake fade? lol
  16. well from what i've experienced the rotors get pretty hot, have a nice long steep hill i like to train on, and when i come back down and sit on the breaks, have to as hitting switchback at 40-60km plus wouldnt work so well lol. the rotors get flipping hot, dripping water on them from the camelback causes the water to instantly turn to steam, like dripping water onto a hot frying pan lol.
  17. hmmm very interesting read
  18. what about looking at the merida range if he wants more of a race bike them maybe the 96 carbon 3000 or the 96 team or if he want more of a trail bike what about the 120 carbon 3000 or 4000? http://www.merida-bikes.com/
  19. well done on the design looks very nice
  20. i never tried to have it replaced as it was a tubed tire (performance series) and it was also kind my fault in over pressuring it, so basically knew nothing was going to happen of it, plus a friend of mine is now using it with a tube and seems to be running fine. but give it a shot, you never know what might happen, its not like you can use the tire tubeless at the moment? so will just sit in the cupboard unless someone is willing to take and use it?
  21. from my experiences once a tire pops off a rims its tickets for that tire, because most of the time the beading has stretched to the point where it can jump off the rim, so unless you wanting to run it with a tube, i'm guessing your going to have to get a new tire, because everytime you pump the tire to the pressure it was before its just going to jump off the rim ( had the problem with a brand new rocket ron which i over inflated while fitting the new tire )
  22. Well this is the hub, I've noticed things do tend to become side tracked very easily here lol. but the point you actually brought up is valid, i have wondered if they actually give out those prizes for people who write in.
  23. that is so classic i needed that laugh lol. from now on what i'm thinking of doing. is saying "please just hold on for a second", then putting the phone down and walking away and and then seeing how long it took them to realize that i didnt want to talk to them
