  1. Then you are more friendly than me. I want to pull zap signs at the cyclists riding past me when I'm in my car. I do have a wicked little smile when they are riding into the south Easter :-). (It's just jealousy because I can't ride to work)
  2. Thanks :-) What makes it impressive is that he only started cycling when he was 60! We both decided one day we wanted to do the Argus Cycle Tour and haven't stopped since. I'm still so glad I managed not to fall going down the descent on day 2. It was nerve racking having two hubbers behind us. Love your bikes though!
  3. The way you looked coming up the climb before Nando's, I'm surprise you managed to get to the end of day 2.
  4. I've met lots of friendly hubbers at the Teddy Bear drop (2011) and Sani2C.
  5. Happened to me going down the Dual Slalom. Came around a burm going at speed and had to slam on brakes to avoid the chicks and then the mom started coming for me. Very quickly go going again, luckily it was downhill so got my speed fast. I did however scream like a real girl which was embarassing as there were some people watching.
  6. We just got a call. The guys name was Rocky. He used to fly the sky diving planes at the CitrusdalRobertson sky diving club. He was well loved by everyone who knew him RIP Rocky
  7. Phone is on, but unfortunately locked. going to keep it on and hope someone tries to phone him/her.
  8. If anyone lost a phone this weekend or knows someone who did, let me know. I'm assuming the person doesn't have kids, I only found it because the alarm was going off at 8am this morning.
  9. I feel your pain. My pup had gastro and spent 3 days at the vet also on a drip, antibiotics etc. My son has had a bout of it as well, but luckily never got dehydrated. My friends dad also passed away and she had to fly from America to Cape Town on her 30th Birthday. Think though that the Stander family takes the prize for the worst kick-off of 2013. Makes all of our issues seem like nothing.
  10. My son has loved dogs since he was a baby. Finally at 4 1/2 we decided he was old enough to have his own :-)
  11. I got mine from Cycles Direct in Cape Town.
  12. If you are not racing, then you should try the Specialized Stumpjumper rather than the Epic. Did a test ride on one the other day and it climbs like a beast ( I was really pleasantly surprised).
  13. Tygerberg MTB have a slow coach ride most weekends. All welcome (as long as you pay for a permit.). Nice social group. Have a look on there Facebook page, rides are often advertised there
  14. In his memory, we can support support the cause he worked so hard for! From the specialized website. Burry Stander Thursday, January 3, 2013 It’s hard to make sense of loss. Often, we are overcome with the need to do something and feel powerless to do so. Songo.info is an organization Burry devoted much of his time and support to. If you would like to pay tribute to Burry, we can think of no better gesture than to spread the word about this organization, or donate to the cause. songo.info homepage or donate to songo.info http://www.specialized.com/us/en/news/latest-news/14543?intcmp=homePromo1BUrry
  15. It should be during the day so everyone who wants to join can. Not everyone has lights.
  16. Sounds like way too much effort, much easier ways to get points. I'm already on 20000 and its only the 3rd day of the year. Just need to do my health check at clicks and get a few other points and I'll be back on Diamond again next year.
  17. Berg and Bush is a nice one as well. Option of the 2 day or 3 day event.
  18. The compact crank is really cool. I've got a 50/34 up front on my new bike and don't miss the granny gears I had on my old one with the triple chain ring. Majority of the Specialized ladies road bikes come out standard with the 50/34.
  19. That is very sad news.
  20. Go ride them, everyone's opinion is different. I did Berg and Bush on a ht and I'm not a fit rider. Had no issues. Was told by others I was crazy though.
  21. Not Mango from my experience. Our cardboard boxes didn't survive the trip to durban. Mine had a half circle slice on it (must have been something sharp, lucky bike wasn't damanged. My dads box have the one corner smashed and various other holes in it. Can't comment on Kulula, we bought Thule hard cases for the trip home (the one box wasn't reusable) so even if they tried, they couldn't damage the bikes.
  22. Sounds very similar to the pain I get with my ITB. I get this when I push harder gears, seems to put extra load on my hammies.
  23. I think obsessive is when you finish your morning ride and then all you can think / talk about for the rest of the day is bikes and your next ride. Riding everyday is dedication, not obsession. You need to keep a healthy balance of cycling and the rest of life i.e family etc.
  24. Day 2 - Fynbos track - you can see by the redness on my face how hot it was. Temp reached 38 on the Sunday.
  25. I ride my carbon 29er ht about 90% of the time and my 26er DS the other 10%. Its so much fun.
