  1. I've heard from various people that it's not good to transport a carbon frame bike on a hanging type bike rack. This issue bugs me because often it happens I need to do this. Any truth in this ?
  2. Oh .. and this coming Sunday 25th
  3. Now if he/she lined up at the start of the TdF do ya think the dope testers would be suspicious, or even dare ask for a urine or blood sample ?
  4. I wonder if the wedding planner got top dollar for his "planning" ?
  5. Centre of The Earth Nursery & Village Coffee Shop 2 Harley St, Modderfontein (East of the dam) Between 9:30 & 12:30, starting with a 40Km ride at 06:30 Free coffee for all cyclists
  6. Ok MichaelH, have now read the flyer about Sunday from Johnsons when I dropped my sons bike off there. Got given it but never read it there and then as I wasn't feeling great [cold, sore throat etc]. Should be a good morning though. See you there !!
  7. For the road: Sylvia's Pass from Bruma side gets the heart rate up a bit, and so does 1st Avenue Edenvale going south. For the MTB: it's got to be the track behind Dowerglen up toward Greenstone shopping centre.
  8. I'm sure you'll be fine on a dualy, it's much easier with cleats though !! And what's this about a Cycle Fair in Modderfontein huh huh !! Will I get an invite ?
  9. ?? Will you be riding that with cleats, or without ?
  10. I was told by a friend working on the Shimano stand that the bikes/frames on display were prep'd simply to demonstrate the new Shimano groupsets. He said they were painted up Monocq frames though.
  11. Thanks jeremyd .. that's the one that I forgot.
  12. dfm1 - put on the Bad Driving website [ www.baddriving.co.za ]. There was a similar website but I can't remember the name.
  13. Looked in my goodie bag tonight when I got home and lo & behold ... where's the packet of rice I'm used to getting ? Never mind, the Expo "sights" made up for it !! If those were my daughters ... well, ahem Agree though about the lack of Diadora yummys from last year
  14. On Saturday Laulil and I stopped at one of the coffee shops in Modderfontein village during an MTB outing, and while waiting we were approached by a guy who was about to sit down at a nearby table with his family. He said that he was the other cyclist that was riding with the guy killed on Alandale Rd. I recall that his [not the deceased] name was Dave [?] He said that his riding partner was an experienced cyclist of some years standing [with a seeding of 16] and that he was struck from behind by a lady driver who was doing about 90Km/h. Don't know how he could tell this, but he related how sickening it was to hear the sound of carbon being crunched up together with his mate .... he then cautioned us several times to please be careful on the roads, and that despite his aspirations for 94.7 and Argus etc. he would not be getting back on any bike in a hurry. To which his wife nodded in agreement. The guy was very visibly traumatised by this event. Not nice to hear .. but a reality check to be more careful.
  15. Thanks for this guide. Now we know !! It also helps to avoid using words like "bonking" or "lubing" around the uninitiated at the coffee shop stop ... unless you wan't to keep them guessing.
  16. Maybe SARS is interested in this info
  17. After last night they're feeling .. how shall I say .. a little Blue !!
  18. Read online that Hunter and Soler [recent TdF stage winners will be riding the 94.7, and planning to do it only 4 Hours !! They are doing this for Charity [Homeless Talk Creche] and to honour Ryan Cox. To join their bunch all you have to do is pay/donate R1,800-00 toward the cause. Wonder what the size of this bunch will be ? Go to: http://www.cyclechallenge.co.za/bullentin_maricio.asp

Hope he has a speedy recovery ... as mentioned in another thread about this, I would like to know what the traffic cones this guy hit were doing out on the road during a well advertised road race, and why the organisers/marshalls did not see and correct this. I believe from other people that this is what happened, so I stand to be corrected here, but since this a popular cycling route it stands to reason that this practice of placing cones on this section of the road must be sorted out pronto.
  20. LA will no doubt say "It's not about the ..... Money" !! He seems to have an "L Ron Hubbard" mentality with his foundation. Agreed that it's not right to infringe on trademarks etc but surely he could resolve this cheaply and amicably with a face-to-face discussion ?
  21. If you're travelling to OR Tambo from Tshwane be sure to take the Albertina Sisulu Highway If not, then next time you come back there'll probably be more name changes to towns, roads etc to confuse the heck out of everyone, locals included ...
  22. Thanks slowpoke ...
  23. Hello Brian V, I see the Hubbers haven't been too helpful with potential training opportunities. Come on guys !! Help this newbie out .. I referred him here from the Gumtree website for why ? Brian ... if you are able to, there are training facilities available at Kyalami racetrack during the week where you can cycle for a few hours. Go to www.troisport.co.za for more info. You can also join a ride with us out in the Eastrand on Sundays leaving Centre Of The Earth Nursery in Modderfontein at 06:30. PM MichaelH for more details. MichaelH ... hope you're getting fit to ride from Midrand to PMB for the 'Shova in a few short weeks. I'm looking forward to it [that reminds me, does Shammy cream come in 5L containers ? ]
  24. Maybe Vincent didn't do the Nola ?? or did you ? THAT was wind .. and it weren't my friend on that day ! For the most part wind only gets referred to when it's in your face. Some people say that if they rode a good time, that was actually wind assisted, then it gets ascribed to pure effort MichaelH, glad to see your "extended" training ride on Sat went well. You missed out on our "recovery" ride today with JMBC. Nothing like a bit of Mtb'ing to soothe those sore legs.
