  1. Had this exact set up come factory fitted to my 2022 Trek Top Fuel 9.8. Great tyres for general trail riding. Wouldn't do a full on enduro on them though if I was properly racing. Fine for my slow pace. Rode them to the end of their life and replaced with Maxxis Rekons 2.6. Only reason I changed to Maxxis was to try the 2.6 tyre...which I'm loving,
  2. You'd be best off riding in the Cape Point Reserve. Minimal traffic (tour busses during tourist season) but they generally behave well and stick to 40km/hr speed limit. You would have to do kind of circuit in the reserve to get in longer ride. A really nice ride with minimal traffic is to start at Kommetjie, ride to the reserve via Scarborough, ride into the reserve and do all the right turns, and then ride up to the Point and then return to Kommetjie. Lots of long straights and very few climbs. And minimal traffic. This would be about an 80 to 90km ride.
  3. It will never happen, but Karkloof in KZN is the perfect venue for a UCI Marathon World Champs.
  4. Cheaper shorts will be fine when you are starting out and doing shortish rides. Once you get fitter and start doing longer rides, spending more time in the saddle, you will appreciate a good bib short. Ciovita is having an archive sale, there may still be some good deals there on both shorts and bib shorts: https://ciovita.co.za/collections/the-archive?pf_t_category=Category%3A+Bottoms
  5. Irks me that superior technology may play a significant role. Should be determined on skill and athletic ability. This is the TdF, not F1.
  6. Agree with all of this. Also fund cutting out Alcohol helps a lot with getting good sleep. Also have better quality sleep if no alcohol consumed ( lots of REM and Deep Sleep). However, for me personally, have to disagree with the no Food 3 hours before bed. I have a small carb rich meal just before bed (Millet, Quinoa, Sorghum and Puffed Brown Rice with Oat Milk) and it helps me sleep. I have mild hypoglycemia, and if my blood sugar drops too much, I get mild anxiety and can't sleep. Weird, I know.
  7. Sounds about right. Would go 2.5 at the back if you riding fast in rocky terrain or doing drop offs.
  8. Doctor is probably right. Most people tested for flu end up Having H1N1 (Swine flu) or Influenza A, both of which are in this year's flu vaccine for Southern Hemisphere. So, doc is playing the odds. But, you right...he should send for tests to confirm swine flu.
  9. The indigenous people of South and Central Americas had this exact diet. No processed foods, only raw milk and everything grown/farmed organically. And yet, they were practically wiped out by measles, smallpox and influenza introduced by European colonisers. A good diet will not protect you from a novel virus or microbe. No matter how much kale you eat, if you catch a bad bug, you will get properly sick.
  10. Went to Clicks today to get my flu shot after reading this. H1N1 is in the flu vaccine for 2023.
  11. I had a similar issue. Turned out to be a Bluetooth issue with my laptop. I purchased an ANT+ Dongle and the issue was resolved.
  12. Indola, based in Tamboerskloof also local. Not sure if products are manufactured locally, but I use their Girona Bibs and they are excellent. Used them the Ronde Van Riebeek 100 miler, which was 7 hours in the saddle. https://indola.co.za/?gclid=CjwKCAjw-IWkBhBTEiwA2exyO9T0HYn7Yu2q6xcECgOu59Warbkt-3-WT7NBDBhuj6AT-7yifSJzZhoCLtQQAvD_BwE
  13. You had an actual bicycle. Luxury! In my day we raced downhill on cardboard boxes with helmets made from dried watermelons. (with apologies to Monty Python)
  14. Is there a way to watch live coverage of the event. I'm not a GNC+ subscriber
  15. Karcher for me too. Have had one for years to keep paving and roof of house clean. Worked perfectly. Would not use one on my bicycles though.

  17. Sorry I missed this one. Great to see an ex-KZN boy take the win.
  18. It was my first one, so can't compare. I've heard from other peeps that previous events had lots of quality Singletrack. Enjoyed the event but disappointed by dearth of Singletrack. Post race beer was awesome 👌
  19. I did the 80km. Not much Singletrack. Nothing worse than cresting a brutal climb and being rewarded with a long jeep track descent.
  20. Darling DBX at Darling yesterday (27/05/23)
  21. Sorry, dude, I've already changed my tyre set up for tomorrow's race at Darling (Darling DBX).
  22. I fitted a Panaracer GravelKing SK+ 700x50mm tyre on a 29er rim with an internal width of 30mm, no issues. Ran this set up at Ronde von Riebeek on my rear. So, unless you have 40mm ID rims, you can fit a gravel tyre.
  23. I just did the Ronde von Riebeek gravel race on my full suspension MTB. I don't have space, or a compliant wife for a third bike, so it had to do. I fitted a Panaracer GravelKing SK+ 700 x 50mm (2.0) on my 30mm ID 29er rim on the rear and a Maxxis Ikon 2.4 on the front. It was comfortable I found the combination rolled pretty nicely. I will put the Panaracer on front and back for my next gravel outing. Great tyres...not cheap though. Go for between R890 and R1000. would recommend them as gravel specific tyres on a 29er MTB.
  24. Yep, Cascades is Greg Minnaar's playground...the PMB trails are where the GOAT 🐐 learned his craft.
