  1. "Sped the cash and go for a specialized. Their BG fitting works wonders for your rear" +1 - they let you take a test saddle too so no more guess work.
  2. Stay away from the Lefty forks if you are left handed - it causes you to ride off the road into the veld on long straight stretches!
  3. Sorry to hear about your bastard being removed. You might get better response posting in the Classified section.
  4. They need to make a bike that can take three size wheels. 26", 29" and 27.5" for the fence sitters. What would it need? -adjustable fork -adjustable dropout -anything else?
  5. All insurers will repudiate if there is no forcible entry. It is to prevent claimers from selling the stuff then claiming it was stolen.
  6. I placed an order with CRC on Monday at 5pm. I paid the extra R300 for DHL delivery as I hoped to use some stuff on the weekend. At 5:30pm I get an email. "Your order has been dispatched". This morning 9am DHL phone me - they have my parcel - by 2pm it is in my hands. Gotta say - I am impressed.
  7. I use Swalbe Nobby Nic 2.4 UST on the front for pure grip. The nobs are so soft you can squish them flat with your fingers. Good for trail riding - poor rolling resitance on Jeep track. My friend uses Geax. He swears by them as the best tyres he has had. They seem to wear quickly though.
  8. Hope II hubs, Stans ZTR rims, DT Swiss Spokes. Get them off chainreaction and have them built locally. That is the best value for money in this price range.
  9. Nice looking bike (at least while the white bits are still white and not brownish-white).
  10. You don't get to test ride a Specialized because you never really own a Specialized - think of it more like an elite club where you get to apply for membership and are accepted only if your father plays golf with the chairman.
  11. My opinion is that 29ers are indeed faster over most courses, but their downsides and my preferences all add up to mean my next bike purchase will be a 26er.
  12. " I'm not the only lone voice proclaiming real food over man-made, packaged, artificially re-enacted, contaminated concoctions!" +1
  13. Stage races: Full suspension. 70km or less one-day rides: hardtail.
  14. Hope II Hubs, Stans Rims, DT Swiss Spokes. Get it built up. Budget on R3500 all in.
  15. I switched over to Eggbeaters from Shimano. Will never go back. Only downsides of eggbeaters are the higher cost and lower durability.
  16. Also try www.yellowsaddle.co.za - Johan Bornman is the Chuck Norris of servicing shocks and forks.
  17. Many riders have fallen at various places in the MTN park. It is a deathtrap for beginners.
  18. "first check that the importer has stock." Seen this before. My friend waited 3 weeks for a Shimano Crank that was apparanetly 'in stock' on the Buycycle website. CRC all the way for me.
  19. It depends on how expensive your rims are. At 1.2 bar hitting a sharp edged rock at speed could end up being expensive. Edit: I remember now, 29ers are only for riding on smooth district roads or tar. My mistake.
  20. Weight Limit - 50kgs? Estimated number of races before replacement - 1 ?
  21. I read somewhere on the internet that Aerodynamics count more than weight on road bikes - I think aerodynamic shapes are probably easier to achieve with Carbon than Aluminium. Then again I am a mtber so please dont quote me on this.
  22. "MTBers were never worried about speed. They wanted fun. Why do you think all these bike park and even the spruit are becomming smoother and less technical, it's to accommodate the roadies and their fetish with speed. Look at the 2012 Olympic XC course. It it basically a crit course painted brown so that it looks like dirt." +100
  23. "If you going to VG try and avoid the river singletrack, it's a mess after all the rain we have had." A rideable mess or an unridable mess?
  24. They could run a driveshaft inside the frame. That would be cool. No cranks - no rear derailler - no chain. Probably weigh a fair bit more but would make cleaning the bike a dream.
