  1. There's a definite balancing act for us to play. The way each Hubber uses with the site is unique and we can't ignore that. Although the forums make up a smaller percentage of activity, it's still a meaningful number (in the millions of monthly page views). We see the forums as a key part of the business and in time you'll see it gain greater prominence, but some of that is dependant on an update to the forum platform.
  2. Forgive me quoting myself from another thread: Classifieds does account for the lions share of activity on Bike Hub (70% of page views on the site) so it is certainly an important factor for the business and a big focus for us moving forward. One of our goals is to better highlight this section, particularly for new visitors. However, it's vital for us to balance the community (forums), news & articles, events and other elements of the site. They're all important pillars for us and the forums and great Bike Hub community are the reason for our existence. Although we have increased the prominance of Classifieds on the home page, we've not decreased that of the forums (e.g. the Discussions aka "Latest Topics" box is still in a similar position).
  3. 100% with any change there will be some apprehension and resistance. There are also some things which are not quite working as intended. Over the next few days we'll address any errors and get things working smoothly. And in the coming weeks & months we'll be working on bringing all the other sections up to speed to ensure consistency across the site. This phase will feel a bit disjointed and there will be some initial bugs, but please bear with us.... soon the bugs will be squashed, then we can get to work on smaller refinements and the larger updates to the rest of the platform.
  4. You can leave the criteria open (i.e. don't specify a search term, just select a category) to still receive a broad range of alerts. What category(ies) or searches are you looking for?
  5. Hi Hubbers, If you're reading this it's likely you have noticed the site update we rolled out yesterday. While for the most part the update was smooth, we know change can be unsettling at first and, as with any new system, it's expected there might be a few early snags to address. Our team has been working through a few kinks and helping many of you who've reached out already. Thanks for all the feedback already shared via other threads, it has been noted and going forward we'll keep this thread open as the primary discussion on the topic. --- Here's a summary of what has changed and an invitation to share your feedback. Why the change? In short, the underlying platform is getting old. This presents risks around stability and security while limiting our ability to improve the offering in the future. We've got many exciting features and improvements in the pipeline, but in order to realise these ambitions we needed to rebuild the infrastructure. What has been updated?Classifieds: All new platformHome page: Revised look 'n feel, new platformForums, Events, Articles, Stolen Bikes: Minor update to look 'n feel (Header / Menu) Feature Highlights - Classifieds UpdateFully responsive design Everything you can do on a desktop can be done on a smartphone. Favourites Need to save an advert to revisit later? Add it to your favourites to bookmark it. We’ll also notify you if the price or status changes. Saved Alerts Looking for something specific? Save your search to receive alert notifications when matching ads are posted. Improved Rating System We’ve moved to a simple star rating system and built-in prompts to kick off the feedback process between seller and buyer. Chat Easily communicate with buyers and sellers on any device with context of the item being discussed. Improved category structure & filtering We've grouped bikes and components more sensibly while allowing more filtering options. For example, within Dual-suspension Mountain bikes there are now filters for riding style, e.g. Marathon/XC, Trail/Enduro or Downhill, Frame material and year model. The improved filters will take time to have a real impact as their usefulness depends on the data supplied in adverts which is missing on imported ads. How does it affect me?Log in You will need to login to the Classifieds and Forums separately, however your account details (username and password) will remain the same. We aim to better integrate this in the near future when the forum platform is updated. Advert data All your advert data (current and past) has been migrated to the new system and you’ll be able to login with your usual Bike Hub account details. Please check your ads and we'd suggest updating your Communication Preferences (Email and Phone number display on ads). Ratings & Feedback Your trader ratings will also be migrated to the star rating system (Negative rating = 1 star, Neutral rating = 3 stars, Positive rating = 5 stars). Private Messages All your PMs are still available on your forum profile, however new messages on Classified ads will be facilitated by the new Chat feature. Both PMs and Chat can be accessed via the user menu in the respective sections (click your avatar in the top right of the menu). Forum content All forum data (posts, topics, etc.) remains on the old platform Any questions, feedback or issues? Post in the comments or contact us via support@bikehub.co.za Alternatively, hit the Contact Support link in the footer.
  6. Hi Hubbers, A quick update on our new Classifieds platform. Our test site is live and we're keen to hear your feedback! What to expect? A Beta version of any software is pre-release version made available to a limited group of users to test under “real world” conditions. This means that you are likely to encounter issues based on your specific device or use of the platform. These might be system errors, features which do not function in the way you’d expect or are missing altogether. What we’d like from you? Feedback! Beta testing is crucial in helping us iron out any kinks to ensure that when we do go live the system works as expected and most importantly, caters to the needs of our users. We’d love to hear your feedback regarding anything you encounter. How to submit feedback: Look for the Feedback widget visible on all pages. Click/tap on that to submit feedback about the page you are on. Your account and data The data on the Beta site is a copy of the current version of Bike Hub at a point in time. This means that your user account and associated advert data will reflect the status at that point in time. NB: Changes made on the Beta site will not reflect on the live Bike Hub site (and vice-versa) Access & Login Beta site link: https://marketplace.beta.bikehub.co.za/ Login: Use your current Bike Hub username & password (it should work seamlessly) Links to other sections The test site includes a new Home Page and Classifieds section, but all links to Forums, Articles, Events and Stolen Bikes will take you back to the current site. In order to navigate back to the Beta site either hit Back on your browser or visit the link above.
  7. Hi Shae_SA, Could you confirm what channel you used to report this to us? I'm not seeing any reports regarding this on Bike Hub itself or on our Support desk.
  8. The finish is seriously impressive inside and out, and for a first test it was near perfect in terms of the finish. Excited to see the end product here....
  9. This scammer is still at it Here are the two most recent aliases and numbers that have been reported Schalk: 063 992 9462 Pierre: 081 063 6147 Willie: 083 846 2211
  10. Yes, you will! But that will come a little later when the forum platform gets an update.
  11. Although I know you're at least partly joking, the latest version of our forum platform does offer "Reactions", basically you can post a "Like" or an emoji reaction. (Note: this would only be available with the forum update, target - Q1 2020)
  12. Some gaps in between and patchy screenshots.... Circa 2004 (courtesy of https://archive.org) Logo: 2005 - 2010 2011... 2015
  13. They're floating around somewhere. In the early days we were yellow
  14. Soon!! Does this count?
  15. Your memory may well be better than mine, but I seem to recall it was discussed but never implemented. Although this announcement and the change is very Classifieds focussed, what's equally exciting for us is what that enables in terms of the forum platform which now sits on a decidedly outdated version. The current Classifieds platform is built into a standard forum/community package which has meant we couldn't upgrade the core package without rebuilding Classifieds. No to get too technical, but by stripping out Classifieds into a standalone (but integrated) system we remove that dependancy and can finally update the forum software and thereafter apply minor updates more regularly. For those opposed to change there will be some adjustment, but since the underlying platform remains the same it will feel familiar. As a small example, uploading images to the forum from the mobile site is currently not possible. Given that more than 50% of site traffic is from a mobile device that update should be a big win for all. We expect the forum update to take place in Q1 2020.
  16. I understand your frustration with this, but speaking in the context of our Terms of Use and intended use of the rating system this would not be allowed. Ratings and feedback should only be submitted in the event that an agreement to transact was in place. This is intended to limit the scope for abuse of the rating system. If positive/negative ratings are allowed at whim, without an agreement between the buyer and seller, the integrity of the system falls apart. That said we do know that currently not all ratings adhere to this policy and it's something we're addressing in a platform update later this year. That unfortunately doesn't solve for low-ballers.
  17. We've updated all the teams based on their final lineups. Good luck with your picks, revised picks and revised revised picks
  18. You pretty much summed up what we're working on, most of which we're shooting to go live with in August (along with broader a revamp of Bike Hub). The introduction of a simple "Mark as sold" function opens up a lot of opportunity to collect meaningful data, e.g. list price vs. selling price, time to sale, prices per brand > model and of course prompt buyer & seller feedback. We know the current Classifieds works well for many, but as this thread shows, there are many areas where small improvements will greatly enhance efficiency and liquidity in the market.
  19. Scammer warning Sidney Botha - Mosselbay/Albertinia - 0732668952 We've received an alert from a member who had contact from a scammer, but thankfully spotted the warning signs. 'Sidney' responded to a wanted advert claiming to have what the advertiser was looking for, sending pictures, etc. Didn't want to allow a local pickup of the item. 'Sidney' wanted payment in parts via a mix of EFT and ewallet type services.
  20. Thanks to all who took part in the 2019 edition. We've crunched the numbers, drawn names and now can reveal all the prize winners. View all the winners and prizes in the article on Bike Hub or on the Epic Fantasy League website.
  21. We’re closing this thread - the 2019 version is here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/181344-predict-and-win-with-the-absa-cape-epic-fantasy-league/ Don’t forget to make your picks for the overall wins and for tomorrow’s prologue before 6am tomorrow.

  23. Thanks for reporting. His behaviour follows the MO of a scammer. We've blocked the account.
  24. That would definitely play some part, but the major contributor here is organic search traffic from other countries.
