  1. HOSTING FEE - what a load of bollocks. They should be giving you incentives to host races on their behalf. TSA should NOT be allowed to charge this. They should only be entitled to a day license fee (R70 is quite steep) and a per person levy on the event. It's no small wonder that there are so few events. Maybe if they removed the hosting fee there would be more events and they would actually be able to grow the sport and get their revenue through increased participation.
  2. THey seem a bit like ROAG here in KZN. ROAG are a company that organise races and have their own seeding system. They generate their income from the Race Host, advertising etc. They also have a "virtual club" for which the cost is nominal, abt R50.00, through which you buy your CSA license no.
  3. how abt a 29'r sub section in the mtb section?
  4. buy yourself a Forward facing seat post such as the one in the link below. Add some 'clip on' aero bars, lower your handlebars and possibly shorten your stem and you will be quite close to being in a TT position. http://www.modernbike.com/itemgroup.asp?IGPK=2126176272
  5. car- favour of client: on the basis the brakes were repaired by a professional. geyser - favour of Insurer on the basis it is up to the insured to ensure they comply. their agent just checked the existence of the property and that it was fair value for the bond value. how did I do ?
  6. some friends communicate with their teenagers through SMS & BBM these days. They seem to get their answers quicker too.
  7. dude, no fantastic short cuts here. consistent time in the saddle and it'll be 2-3 years. you can't catch up to people who have bee cyclists for years by doing a few extra strength sessions.
  8. so as I understand it you are QUITE HAPPY to let someone else buy one of these frames (other than your "don't buy unbranded" rant) from the same supplier and suffer the same misfortune or perhaps a far worse one where he ends up in hospital or even paralyzed? I understand your point about it not being his fault but you are quite happy to let him continue selling these frames to FELLOW cyclists when you know they are crap. I sincerely hope that you have a rethink and add some information that will actually be of benefit to others and prevent such frames being sold.
  9. I think you need to spill the beans on the branding of this frame and where you brought it from. I assume you wouldn't want the same thing to happen, possibly with the potential for a serious injury, to anyone else.
  10. check out Swim Gear Aqua Pulse Swimsense
  11. Cost of Insurance perhaps??? If it's like running then there is an insurance should you fall and injure yourself / get hit by a car etc.
  12. Does anyone have Garmin (or other) total ascent stats for the 126k? The course was quite brutal, consider that it was only 20k longer than the Amashova and it took the top boys an hour longer. A mate saw one bloke blown off his bike by a gust of wind too.
  13. yes, if I get the all clear from the physio.
  14. Check out LASSEN
  15. Does anyone know who does this in Durban?
  16. were all 3 accidents involving motor vehicles ?
  17. Here is a response from MTN (RE pulling out at the last minute) MTN's contract was up for renewal after the race last year and based on the new revised proposal (with serious escalations) MTN received from the organisers, we decided not to renew. The organisers were aware of this from January this year when we met with them directly in Durban so it was definitely not a last minute thing to pull out.
  18. If you end up seeing a surgeon seriously consider seeing a Neuro Surgeon who will then suggest an orthopedic surgeon. The Neuro surgeon will do the nerve work (move them out the way etc) and the orthopedic will drill, hammer & chop.
  19. something about horses for courses ? sponsored or rich riders should always be using the best bike for the course, just like guys in the TdF who change their gear ratios depending on the days riding. it's us poorer folk who can't afford two bikes that have to bite the bullet and buy a bike based on the type of riding you do most often.
  20. The Amashova team works closely with the City of Durban in promoting safe cycling and developing cycling tracks in and around the city[/i][/b] Can't honestly say that I know of one safe cycling route that has been developed for cyclists to use. There is the dedicated cycle (certain hours only) lane around NMR ave but I wouldn't say it's safe since there have been a least a couple cyclists killed there in recent years. So one does have to wander if any of the other stuff happens too. Personally I am quite happy with there being no expo and goodie bag although the socks issued by MTN (when they sponsored the event) over the last few years were better than all the typical samples and the best thing is COMPLETE ROAD CLOSURE.
  21. You have to remember that 10000 includes two races (38Km & 106Km). There were also a large number of people who didn't want to buy a chip for 1 race so were not timed.
  22. Chaps, I don't think MTN dropped the race at the last minute. I did hear rumours that "Durban Tourism" or similar sponsor demanded they get all the finish straight branding which caused MTN to go whooa, who's the main sponsor here? (ps: I don't work for or have any involvement with MTN)
