  1. Often in life it’s the most simple and obvious answer that is just as probable. There’s an appeal against the hearing decision, in which case the sanction shouldn’t have been published in the first place.

I was also ver impressed with the broadcast, commentary was good, picture quality excellent including the coverage of the track, no buffering at all and i could fast forward and go back frames without any issues. Let’s see how ot goes tomorrow, Bart will then also be there commentating.

Definitely getting much much better, camera work/production need a bit more polishing. But overall a well produced package including the social feeds.

A highlight for me is the live u23 on YouTube and then catching the elites on Statlive. R100 sub per month is nothing

It would have been an added bonus if Tread Mag published the series dates in the same article, to help guide the decision on how many “monthly subscriptions” would be required, vs. an annual one.

Mail them, maybe they’ll do it.

Reason why I subscribed to Staylive 👏 So glad DSTV is out of the picture!

"South African-based sports broadcaster, SuperSport has traditionally broadcast the series to its Premium subscribers. But for 2024, the rights have been awarded to Staylive, a Swedish streaming solutions company."

Yes and no, SS keep getting hammered but the truth is that in SA we've been spoilt by the airtime allocated to cycling by SuperSport buying rights. Most territories around the world don't enjoy anywhere near the access.
For a long time, we had the most enviable access with both SuperSport and RBTV. The problem comes in with how the UCI awards it's broadcast rights.

Maybe a dumb question, but this is the SWorks super bike launched about 10 days before the epic, right?

Did Matt get an advance model for training, or just jump on it after global launch and dial it in.

if the second, then was the global launch get tied to cape epic date?

Another dumb question, bike is not going to auction or whatever, this is his racebike now for the season (granted he's on a gravel program too)?

He did have some time on a demo/pre prod proto afaik, had a discussion at one of the launches and one of the S staffers mentioned it. Apparently, his testing feedback was that the new model is like a better more polished version of the previous Epic Evo. Would speculate that should also be taken in the context of a competitive race bike. Reckon Matt's pro moto background makes his feedback especially invaluable.

Several brands launch their new models around this time, for eg; Liv, Cannondale, Bulls, Titan. Especially with Olympics around the corner. IMHO this makes for good timing alongside Cape Epic and a smart brand can use this to their advantage.

We moved to Stellies 18months ago and yes houses are expensive but man I have loved living here. Endless trails, great restaurants and an amazing vibe.

And a stupidly ridiculous amount of ice cream parlours!.... Heaven!

I am looking to move to a town in the Western Cape, and to buy a house. I ride mtb almost every day, and I like to ride from home. Besides Stellenbosch and Somerset West, what is the best towns for mtb? Also take buying a house into consideration. Stellenbosch has great riding from home but not any good new houses to buy at resealable prices. Somerset West is a bit better in terms of buying a house, but I want to find out more about Wellington (north) and Paarl, George and Outeniquasbosch Wildlife Village in Hartenbos. Outeniquasbosch has great option to buy a house but the mtb area is slightly small. Has anybody done some mtb in Outeniquasbosch? Any other suggestions?

Which town would you recommend to buy a house to enjoy mtb from home? Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Must say I was pleasantly surprised with Tulbagh/Saronsburg. Some absolute quality riding and outdoors exploring around there, plus housing seems pretty cheap. Swellendam gets another vote, apparently the fastest economic growth. Also apparently, the region between these up to Wellington is fast becoming a thriving outdoors/adventure sports scene.
Depends on what your work entails and what kind of town/suburban balance you're looking for.

That’s never going to happen as much as we want to see it. They rely on the YouTubers to provide this content.

If you want to see more of the back of the field guys, watch Craig Kolesky. He’s given you a great perspective of what it’s like. If anything it’s actually put me off it a bit with the amount of walking that would have to be done if you stuck behind someone on a climb and then also stuck behind slower guys on single track and not really enjoying the trails.

I would also subscribe to Jasper Verkuijl’s channel on YouTube. He’s an amateur but very fit and finished 3rd at the epic in the Amateur category. His videos are top notch quality and bring a more racing perspective from the amateurs. It’ll probably be a while though before he edits and uploads it but yeah he’s the go to guy for amateur racing. His content on the Haute Route events are top class.

Jasper is an absolute mullet and legend, class human.

  9. Imho there’s a fair amount of amateur coverage amongst the highlights packages etc. Arguably there could be more depth, at the same time who pays for this?
Using the heli as am example, flying hours are already at their limit, including the pilot, camera operator, editing and producers. So to extend that means an extra crew on a heli, pilot, cameraman and producer hours for editing, or draw down hours on capturing elites.
As it is, the eyeballs are drawn by what happens in the elite race, this is a fact. It is the driving impetus behind coverage.

Please share links to some of those bike checks.

Prefer reading and drooling over the pictures than watching a vid, but looks like those days are also passing.

Ya, like the vids but it's a very different consumption, plenty demand for copy/photos though. Still correlating a lot of stuff among other work, but here's Impey's bike. Nothing spectacular customisation wise, but I quite like it for the fact that it's essentially stock off the floor and good enough for a WT pro.
Theres a bunch of stuff from last year as well.

I don't think we, at home, know quite where is comfort level is.

A guy like Matt evidently likes to grind a big gear while Grotts might be a spinner. I'm pretty sure their coaches and team know how to best set up their bikes for their preferred way of turning the pedals.

I may be entirely wrong, but he looks like he likes being light on the pedals with higher cadence. Trying to change that because Matt is more powerful than an angry Bruce Banner and rides differently might be a recipe for disaster

38t for Grotts while Matt seems to alternate sizes. According to some of the team staff, did some bike checks yesterday.
