  1. Good to here the guy was corrected. He probably now sees this as done and dusted and this is why he has gone silent. Keep Groenies decent. Share the trail. Ps @Janneman72 Mtb etiquette is that if you stop on the trail you MUST clear the trail ASAP so that cyclist behind you do not have to stop. To toe touch and then stop on a rocky incline and then turn to apologies to the guy sucking lungs behind you is BAD. Rather dismount and lift/push the bike off the trail line immediately, apologies later. Action speaks louder than words, and a grunt at speed is actually a BIG THANK YOU and not a Kevin Evan's greeting....
  2. After reading all the posts a number of snotty comments are just sitting on the end of my tongue. As this is the hub maybe I should be a bit of a cat and let rip: Firstly, you bought a genuine replica fake, or something like that. What you wanted was something that was like good, awesome, and would make you feel good. Which it did until you realised that it was neither genuine or a genuine replica ridden by some European pro cyclist. Now you are miffed. You feel cheated because it is a different bike, not because it was a worse bike. You assume that the bike is worse because Pinarello says it is not a Pinarello, not because you have cycled the real thing and felt the difference. On this point it seems that you were easily parted with your money (goed koop is duur koop). As an analogy you went to a dodgy VW dealer to buy a BMW, and when realising you were sold a corsa you are the blixim in. It seems that in parting with almost 90k on a bike you were less prepared than when you go buying earl grey tea. It seems as if you were a willing victim of kakonomics, where suddenly you are aggrieved to realise that a non-registered (pinarello) dealer bike shop just doesn't suddenly sell Pinarello dogma's. I mean few people suddenly wake up in the morning and decide to buy a dogma, it is a dream bike, like a designer item, top of the brand the rolex of cycling, the rolls Royce of two wheels ext. To buy a dogma should entail working through the registered dealer and agent. You don't just buy a dogma. BUT you did..... Also, as the Dogma is "the" bike, Pinarello and ASG should make more effort to sort this thing out. It is their good brand name that is being eroded. Image how much business (and helicopter flips) ASG is losing by Cycle Sciences little sideline? How can cycling a dogma be a status symbol when ever township boy is one a dagma look alike. What is the bumptious of that? Status must cost money and Cycle Science is eroding the entire edifice of the cycling pyramid. Next thing people will start winning races on Raleigh's. Finally, you can take the loss as your instalment on your further education in cycling or chose to call your lawyers who will then call cycle sciences lawyers (who will then spend the money you gave them) to sort it all out and that would cost you the same. Anyway, after all that cat-I-ness, I do feel sorry for you, partly because I was taken for a ride by a bike shop when I bought my first road bike. The guy sold me a bike that was 5cm too big. It was hell riding it and I had to buy a new frame shortly afterwards. But Karma is a b!tch and it turns out his wife preferred his bike mechanic in the hay.......
  3. She has started the relationship on a good note. Next you will be telling us you were also barefoot?
  4. Classic Triathlete Ninja trick. Pitch up on a "cycle date" with your beater/classic bike and ride the hell out of the cyclist and then offer to make amends by offering to go running afterwards. I hope your ego can take such an asswhipping. I guess she swims on Sundays?
  5. Bad news about the hearsay. The problem is you were not riding with your daughter, so could do nothing to the accused party at the place of the offence. Next time let your daughter cycle with a bunch of hubbers and friends or even cycle with you if this type of thing bothers you. Maybe the guy was so enamoured by your daughter that he accidently switched her to get her attention (which could be worse in the long run...) After the fact hunt and kill does not often get the desired results. When in doubt about riding at Groenkloof ask a HUBBER, we (as in hubbers) organise group rides there...
  6. A simple escrow service. Agree on an neutral hubber to act as go between. Goods are delivered to neutral third party who confirms the goods and takes receipt of good. EFT payment occurs online and goods are then released by the third party to the buyer. In this way trust can be built and long distance purchases where postage is involved becomes more stable.
  7. So another innovation by the Cape Epic, Daconnian and totally over the top fines for infringements (with late media releases too boot) add that to the needless doping control of back markers and the imposition of cut off times per stage, and you have a a great challenge which will appeal to the pro's as well as the well healed fun riders.
  8. THey both are based in CT, so for them South Africa stops at the Heildeberg-H mountain range.........
  9. Ahh, it does not matter what the Epic was supposed to be, rather what matters is what it has become. I like your R50 000 exclusion criteria for a race. ie wealth (or access to wealth) is more important than fitness. What a race!. Comrades started as a rememberance race to those who fell during WW1. It has always attempted to keep true to this manifesto. It has introduced a number of medals and sub catorgories to accomodate runners that have proven their FITNESS (by qualifying by completing a marathon in sub 4 hrs) So to compare the cape epic with Comrades is disingenious. Also comrades only treats the silver medalists and up as elites (ie doping control), not the entire field. The rub is this either you host a mass participation race (ie fun ride) or a elite race (UCI race). If you want host both in one event then make it known that those entering one catergory will not be treated like those in the other category (doping control and prize money included).
  10. If you make it a UCI race then that is what it is, a "race only elite riders can enter". You cannot and should not mix fun riding with UCI racing. If a fun rider wants the cape epic experience it would be better that he climbs on his bike in CT and gets off in Knysna, and stays in comfortable guest houses on the way. That is the philosopht of another challnege, which starts in Pietersburg and ends in CT called the FREEDOM something or other. (which is not a race, although people race it).
  11. but why would you want to? Rather convert it to a 26 single speed. THe cost of the new wheel set and all the engineering to get the extensions just right would probably set you back the cost a of new frame
  12. The hub needs to consider the use of an escrow (escroue) system when buying and selling. In its simple form, the buyer and seller nominates a trusted (old hubber) third party to receive the goods before payment is made. Once payment is made the escrow agent will then forward the goods to the buyer. In the case of out of town purchases a escrow agent closer to the seller can be nominated, to take delivery before cash payment is made.........

  16. Groenkloof Saturday or Sunday? anyone?
  17. 5k will give you a very basic entry level bike. Think toro (reciol) spring shocks or even branded shock, alvio shifters and maybe mechanical disc brakes. Non name cranks and wheels Second hand may be the way to go, then you can get maybe a deore groupset with atoro air front shock and hydro brakes. Make a turn in the classifieds or LBS.

  19. after all the effort to get 29er accepted as quasi roadbikes at the Argus, you do this, look for a arcane tyre width that went out with the ark? Last time I even heard of this sourcery was when Queens cycles had to hand the last of their stock of 20c tyre out to the die hard cavemen roadies in 2005...........
  20. I would recommend a chain guard/ front derailler (locked on place) to prevent the chain climbing of when you are on the light gears. Check some of the DH bikes for inspiration. Or hook up an old front derailler (a bike shop should sell you one cheaply)
  21. Witkop

    Chain

In most cases a 11 speed chain works on all 11 speed, 10 speed with all 10 speed and 9 speed with all 9 speed. Shimano as a rule does not work on Campy, but SRAM works on both?!. (something about campy parts attacking you when they come into contact with shimano) Wipperman and KNC works on everything, but check the box to ensure you have the correct chain (as stated above shimano and campy use different gauges for their chains widths). Tiagra will work on Dura Ace (both are shimano). Mtb or road, shimano is the same. QUick links are specific to the chain.
