  1. I know some fellas who are going skiing next week will be pleased to see the snow. Thought for a while they should take mtbs instead of skis.
  2. About the same. Usually about 16.5. In races usually a bit higher than that.
  3. Do lots of our riding in and around giba. Avg usually between 16 and 17 kph. When we ride back in via the tar road at the top, always a flat box interval from bottom of the hill below Summerveld up to the mushroom farm, then down the road to the start of gravity. Avg there about 40. Amazingly find avg speeds nearly always about the same around giba, whether we "racing " or not.
  4. I take it you not missing Joburg then
  5. When?
  6. Agreed, Clearwater trails are cracker, plus Beaver Creek cuppos. Sweet. The tar road that runs from the coast past the entrance to Clearwater , runs inland for about 40 ks. Long climb for first bit then undulates nicely. We rode about 70 clips one morning there before Epic last year. Not sure how much traffic that road attracts and what's is name is, but without traffic, a nice ride. Check with locals maybe as to how busy the road is early doors.
  7. +1. Esp my financial manager
  8. Agree here. The days of annual increase on x date and bonus paid in December are toast. Each industry is different, but as a business owner, you need to find the balance between retaining and rewarding loyal skilled staff by treating them fairly, honestly and paying them fairly for the work they do, and pandering to evey employee's hand outstretched plea. Can't imagine there are too many companies around now that keep a bonus budget in place. More likely to incentivise throughout the year and pay accordingly.
  9. Never late and always on time.
  10. You having twins?
  11. Eyeboh! Spent yesterday morning washing bike, dogs and pool, guess that was a waste of time. This is getting silly now.
  12. Same here. How's that storm last night
  13. 2012 Scott carbon soft tail 29er. Sweet. About 30.
  14. Or x-1 where x is the number it would take for your wife to divorce you.
  15. None. Only own a polar training watch which I wear on the bike and running or paddling. Otherwise never wear a watch.
  16. 2:48
  17. Nice to face Dale and Morne and Vern under heavy cloud and moist air. Looking forward to it. 160 odd still a lot of runs to get. When it's less than 50 then you boys up in JHB better get out the dancing shoes.....
  18. Why on earth didn't they play the second test here at Kingsmead. Raining properly here
  19. Big time legend. Well done brother.
  20. Not even a debate. Your control and pedal efficiency worlds apart with cleats. Most nb piece of clothing after lid for me.
  21. Hey Devlin Cool info bru. No doubt it's tough to build a route and I reckon you guys did well. I thought the climb up from Mango was cool and well built. Some of the track back down to the river was slippery but that's from the rain. The bog bubbler was dodge but again no-ones fault. As you say there really is nowhere to go but up unless you cross at Mango, as we found out seconding Dusi this year on MTBs and had to double back then climb out of Res Hills. One thing that would be nice would be a set of planks or palletts over Island rapid. Easy to tip and roll while carrying your bike across there, could have a nasty fall down into the river section. Shot for your honest feedback
  22. I've always enjoyed spinning , enjoy the music and can go when it's dark, and chat to all the regulars that go to the same class. My VA still has the old bikes, last time I checked, but even with that started to get sore knees and ankles. I just find the setup too different to my regular bike, plus my riding mates seem to get faster than I do by road training over the same time put in. So stopped spinning, now swim for extra cardio and ride my mtb around the neighborhood early bells during the week. Lonely but good.
  23. Two words for you brother. Kar Kloof. Or Giba Gorge.
  24. The section around the dam was good. Nice to ride there, esp if you know the river from paddling. I was amazed how low the river was though. Woudnt have been difficult to put a little bridge over Island rapid though, carrying your bike over there was dodge. Then all good until the urban slum, the bubbling bog pipe was a beauty. Pity. Certainly a tough ride though once you crossed the new freeway bridge.
  25. Invite Ricky Michael and Mitch around for a braai. They got nothing to do.
