  1. It gets hot !! and the climbs are steep .90% of Merino can be walked if your gearing is wrong, but you can still end midfield .Enjoy !
  2. With 32 x 46 at the back ,you should be able to ride everything .32 x 50 is so slow ,you will struggle to keep upright .I reckon the smallest in front with a 50 at the back should be a 34 or even better a 36 oval .I am going to try out 1 x 12 this desember .Currently on 34 x 11 -46 .Top end on 32 x 10 is also to slow imo
  3. Sometimes they delaminate ,but this has happened to me with a Swalbe Tyre also
  4. Also 100kg rider .Personally i like a nobby nick in front for grip and the Vittorio barzo front and Vittorio saguaro rear works for me .I am not a fan of a heavy tyre in front .2,35 width is enough if you have a wider rim like 25mm and more
  5. Rode from my home and back .Loved all of it and the new section was welcome .Also liked the church square detour . Kudos to the marshals especially near the prison for handling the traffic
  6. No incidents on KK itself ,but after hours house breakin attempts from KK side .The active criminal group were all arrested and now the access is sort of controlled .I ride there often and so do a lot of other cyclists and runners .Contact Rob on WA 0825756708 and ask to be added to the klapperkop NR safety group
  7. I can recommend Vittorio Barzo/Saguaro combo and also maxxis ikon/ardent combo .If you ride often the continental X-king,s work well .They are light and strong but will go flat and perish if not used regularly .As a grippy front tyre Swalbe Nobby nic is also a good choice .Obviously all except the vittorio in the extra sidewall protection versions,
  8. Unfortunately most riders and even shops don,t really understand geometry and the difference it makes .It is only when you have a few bikes that you can compare them with each other directly .All of us will adapt to what we ride and just accept that you cannot do this or that and blame your own abilities ,especially with technical mtb riding .Most folks don,t have a clue how the placement of the bottom bracket backwards{reach } improves all aspects of technical riding
  9. I am between a XL and XXL at 194cm .I buy all my bikes at 40% discount because the market is so small for my size that i will always find my size at a discount new or used .When i sell them i don,t lose that much .
  10. And the wind???
  11. Currenty on XT 11 speed with 11/46 sunrace cassette .I have a GX set in the garage that i will use on another bike soon .I am happy with this setup but i find that my small cogs work way to hard compared with a 2 x drivetrain .If you have a 32 in front you will spend most of your time in the 2 smallest gears .They wear out while the rest of the cassette is still good .With 2 x the wear is spread much more evenly .I am still holding on to my front derailleurs for now
  12. I use 120ml in all tyres exempt In Continentals i use 180ml
  13. I have a set of the previous model crest that never gave any issues .There is a problem with the crest MK3,s .First issue was that a XXL frame bike was factory specced with crest,s .How many 6” plus riders do you get that weigh less than 85kg ? .I did not mind to much because my 12 year old boy would get the wheelset. At 45kg he managed to break 2 spokes on the rear wheel .When i had it repaired the mechanic told me that he broke another spoke by just feeling the tension with his fingers .He also said that the spokes were to short and that they only screwed into the first part of the spoke nipple and did not go all the way through into the rim like they should be
  14. ikon rear ..Barzo front is what i use
  15. Nogal n Niner ook .Sorry Eddy !
  16. OK!.Panic has set in .Planning for survival and finishing only .Riding with A HT and mtb tyres 1 x 10 .34 oval x 11 x 42 .I think that is ok for the climbs, but to slow for the majority of the event .Should i put a 36 in front for my 100kg or put the front derailer back
  17. I am always shopping around for decent shorts and prefer them to bibs .If shorts fit well i will use them for every ride .They keep your thighs warm in winter and i have somewhere to put my phone and earphones .And yes i have assos, craft ext bibs .Always try shorts/baggies on before you buy and make sure they fit well
  18. Last 40 km is a leg killer .No incidents and no wind .Motorists behaved well where i was riding
  19. Cannot be sure .Making my own number like i have done before
  20. If you ship to a friend in UK and they bring it here ,will you still pay UK VAT
  21. Entered. Now for training and bike choices .I guess 2 x anything is the best option .At 100kg ,should i even consider a roadbike with 2 x 11 or go with MTB 1 x 10,1 x11 or 2 x 10 .Note .I have ridden Swartberg enough times to know that good brakes are as important as the correct gears .So that sort of cancels out the road bikes .
  22. Lekke riding in the Karoo
  23. Karina deserves a Bikehub medal !
