  2. I'm not sure of the best way to share it. However one way is to PM me your email address and then I invite you to the appropriate folders on my Dropbox. You will then receive an email with a link. You can then browse or download at your leisure.

  4. Otherwise, I also know of someone who is going to be setting up courses in the not too distant future (not sure when) on bike maintenance, in Joburg
  5. I have 20 gigs worth of reasonably collated You Tube movie and pdf tutorials on maintenance and repairs stored on Drop Box if anyone is interested in accessing.. mainly Shimano, Fox, Mavic etc Covering most important items, shock/fork rebuilds, derailleur setup, brake bleeding, wheel and suspension bearings replacement, BB replacement, etc etc
  6. Post a pic of how you clamp it. I have the same stand which works fine on Anthem and Trance bikes on the top tube. Unfortunately I find the clamp isn't powerful enough to hold the bike using the seatpost; it slowly subsides forwards from the weight, unless I take off the wheels... which isn't always desirable. So, for the money I think the Tork is great but I agree, the extra for the Park Tools one is probably the way to go.

Great day's racing, all 3 classes, especially Moto GP... kinda puts F1 in the shade...
  8. Near the top of the black route at Hakahana Trails Pelindaba atomic research place in background
  9. Just seen, there's another thread active about the joys of another well known LBS damaging a fork...
  10. I keep hearing these tales of swopping out components ... one of the reasons I do all my own servicing and repairs these days apart from the damage that an incompetant bike mechanic can do. I've had Mavic Crossmax SLR rims gouged near the valve so that the valve no longer seals and caliper mount threads stripped on expensive forks... no way do my bikes go anywhere near an LBS these days. And marking components is a good idea... I guess the value of high end stuff presents too much of a temptation to staff... who then possibly sell that stuff here in the classifieds!!
  11. Locking and drifting the rear around corners on a dirt motorbike often is the way to go.. like car rallying, but on a push bike, very seldom. For slowing & stopping, do it in a straight line with, as Flowta says 70% front. For most apps a 160mm rotor on the rear is enough, but if you do a lot of steep and long downhills, then a 180mm on the front minimises fade. Drifting, locking up the rear just wastes energy and wears out your tyres! .. as well as messing up the trail.
  12. I'm very happy with my XT BL-M775 brakes, great performance especially coupled with Ice Tech rotors, easy to bleed as well, and I believe the later models are even better.
  13. Aussie organisers are crying breach of contract due to the lack of sound from the cars... and I sort of agree, even though the race was entertaining, I think the low sound sucks!
  14. Today.. first day of no rain for two weeks or so Harties, top of Redstone
  15. I rode there last Sunday.. prepare for a lengthy bike wash. Even if there's no more rain (which is unlikely), there's a lot of standing water... and mud!
  16. Kings Kloof is on the Tarlton road on the LHS about 4-5kms north of the big intersection at the bottom of the Krugersdorp hill . It's a tough ride, but needs to be tried
  17. Top of Alberts Farm, Northcliff today
  18. What the man said, you have to know the ACTUAL weight
  19. Yeah, a great shame about Yellow Saddle... I have accumulated about 10gigs worth of U Tube video tutorials as well as text tutorials covering most aspects of bike maintenance which, when properly sorted/filed I was thinking of making available on Dropbox or similar. But in any event, I recommend just googling any issue you have and spending 10 minutes to half an hour sifting thru the results. Most times you will find out exactly what you need to know...

  21. You can rather learn to sort these issues out yourself. In my experience it pays in the long run.. less high blood pressure and confidence in your bike. I've done a tutorial to bleed XT brakes, attached here. It's not the only way to do it but works for me. Give it a try. Shimano XT brake bleeding_2.pdf Alternatively, there's a LBS in one of the newish shopping centres east of Harties that the guys talk about. I can't remember the name, but I'll post it later Oh, and get onto XT rotors as soon as you can
  22. If you're going to mount your phone on handlebars Endomondo has the best dashboard.. speed, time, average speed, distance all show nice and big on one screen... and you can configure it anyway you want to... then you upload the ride to Strava later. If you pack your phone away in your back pocket then you might as well just go with Strava, cos it's so cool to compare your rides... the others don't do that as far as I know. The disadvantage of using Endomondo as a dashboard is you have to use an app called "Keep Screen On" , and then your battery won't last more than 2 to 3 hours... especially if you break to take a few photos The other way 6 plus hours no prob
  23. great idea.. but now we got to carry nylon rope in toolkit as well!...
