  1. great idea.. but now we got to carry nylon rope in toolkit as well!...
  2. Depending on your type of riding, check out the Giant Trance as well
  3. My guess.. if it was stolen, is that a another cyclist took it. I was at NFarms on Sunday and I've never seen so many peeps there before, except on race days. There are car guards, and I've never seen "outsiders" lurking or even walking through the area, With so many visitors that day, the car guards could easily have missed a cyclist removing the "wrong" bike from a rack... I've worried about this issue, and I always park in view of the restaurant area if I stay for breakfast... this is SA after all
  4. Thanks for providing the correct name! No wonder I couldn't find it on the internet. It is a pretty good product. Thinking of the other version for tools too...
  5. XT Ice Tech rotors wil make the whole exercise worthwhile
  6. Using POCLOC you can still record your ride and take pics, with your phone relatively safe from moisture, sweat, mud, dust and a mild scrape if you keep it in your backpack. You just can't use it as an odo. If you have a Samsung, you have the free two year glass breakage and moisture warranty anyway, so not too much to worry about taking your smartphone riding!
  7. Or there's a soft waterproof bag called, I think, Pocloc. This is good for keeping phone in backpack safe from water if you fall into the river. It lets you take pictures without removing phone. I have one of these as well.. got it from LBS for R100 which is quite expensive for a R20 plastic product, but because it's for cycling... well you know.
  8. You can buy this from Sportsman's Warehouse, or order direct from Hong Kong cheaper. I have one, and ordered an extra mount for my second bike directly from Hong Kong which duly arrived after 3 weeks by normal mail (2 weeks sitting in local PO). It hasn't been drop tested yet, or dipped into a river, but the case seems sturdy enough and it's like wide screen TV with my S3 on the handlebars! http://bikeconsole.com/detail.asp?catid=88187&Pdtid=689955
  9. Northern Farm today .. great cycling weather.. cool overcast.. and deserted..
  10. Hope so... sent PM
  11. More than likely yes...
  12. I have also often seen the carpark full and nearly no one on the ride! I have no idea how that works.... On 27th I'm either going to ride Spruit or N Farm and then definitely N Farm on Sunday 28th, so maybe will connect on Thursday. How many kms do you ride?
  13. I got de-saturated!
  14. I would say yes. I mostly ride there alone, because it's where I ride when my normal riding buddies can't make the ride. But to be 100% (or should I make that 99%!) safe I would possibly avoid the lower river section and the far north west bit, but having said that, I have not heard of any problems occuring there recently. But if you're interested, I will be riding there a couple of times over the next week to 10 days if you want to link up. I ride 40kms at 16kms average. As Bonus says, it will mostly have a few other riders out there, but don't bank on that, I have been on rides when I've seen nobody!
  15. One other thing that I've experienced is the the outer circumference of the rotor touches the inside of the caliper, so you just have to put some marker ink on the rotor or the inside of the caliper to check if it is. Then just file off a bit of the caliper until it stops touching.
  16. You didn't say if it's intermittent or constant. If the former, then more than likely it's an out of true rotor, which as the others said you can true up with an adjustable wrench or by hand. It's just fiddely trial and error work. A tip I used once with an Avid rotor which was bent all ways... take out the pads >> then re-position the caliper so it's off to one side >> just, or nearly touching one side of the rotor and tighten >> spin the wheel and now you can see where it touches >> mark the spot >> note which way it's out of true >> remove to bend it a bit >> then repeat until it's straight. This way the caliper body gives you a fixed point from which to work. If it touches constantly, then my guess is that the pads aren't releasing properly. Not sure what to suggest, but check that your pads are straight and the spacer spring is free and able to push the pads outwards. That no dirt or corrosion is preventing the pads from free movement
  17. I also used to cycle to school, and the bike sheds were full (covered sheds!), but the only way it could work today is with dedicated cycle paths and that will only happen in heaven! If "they're" mowing down cyclists in London, imagine the carnage here...
  18. Believe me, he's right! I went through the same thing (used to have 600-635), and now I'll never go near as narrow as 600mm, these days 660 - 680 is where i'm comfortable, and lots of people go much wider... 700 plus You can always cut the bars, but never add to them! Just give it a few rides to test... Assuming of course that they're not 1000mm long! You didn't mention the length...
  19. Driving in the Phalabora area I once saw an eland jump over a high game fence... from a standing position!
  20. I get it too, any temperature, but worse if it's very cold. I have regarded it as an age thing! But would like to know how to minimise if poss. It could be a common issue as riding gloves always have a towelling part, for wiping said noses!
  21. And from the top of Delta Park towards Sandton City
  22. More Spruit Cellphone pics
  23. Spruit today
