  1. As we Capies will not be able to attend the memorial ride: On Saturday August 4th riders will observe a minute's silence in memory of Ryan before the start of the Stellenbosch MTB challenge.
  2. A huge shock to read the news this morning. A sad, sad day. R.I.P Ryan.
  3. Interestingly, on Cyclingnews.com Franke is decribed as "a leading German anti-doping crusader" NOT and anti-doping "expert". Puts a different perspective to it. Second, he went to the German TV ZDF making these statements. Why? He stated that the "documents" incriminating Contador "turned up in his briefcase" and that he turned them over to the German Police. So if there is a case to be investigated, why not wait for charges to be laid against Contador? Why rush of to the TV? Because he is simply looking for publicity in the anti-doping forum? This smacks of muck-raking journalism to me. Of course, I might be wrong, and Contador might turn out to be a doper, but has really become difficult to separate the crap from the truth in these matters. HomerSimpson2007-07-31 07:51:34
  4. Makes me realise how lucky we are to enjoy good health..things can go wrong so quickly. Ryan will be in our thoughts and prayers.
  5. Groot Lem, First off, yes a national seeding must allow you to start (for example) in the same seeded group of any local/provincial club/group/body's ride (if they are affiliated to the CSA. Second, the cheap licence has the same privileges as the full licence IN RACES/RIDES WHERE THE CHEAP LICENCE MAY BE USED. Third, no, you do not need to belong to the PPA and have a national licence, but entry fees for the ride may then be more expensive for non-PPA members (for example). My 2 cents
  6. Rock: photo blurred deliberately to hide inferior components (5, 105, Aksium). Fanie: ons moet praat...
  7. Thanx for all the good wishes....as I now own a Cannondale, I'm thinking of opening a Cape branch of TCS As for all those comments about the triple chainring... y'all. I cycle for fun, and one thing I have realised is that using the triple not only makes some tough climbs easier, but ultimately faster (actually learnt this from MTBing). Credits thus far to Joss (frame & fork); CWC (wheelset), CRC (groupset) and Flandria (tyres/tubes/bar tape and build). Still need to replace the seat tube (weighs about as much as the frame) and to investigate the stem length. Will play around with the bike this weekend.
  8. Got the bike last night (apologies for the quality of the pics) http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1333/857076539_5bf0a3eef7.jpg and the obligatory couch picture http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1129/857076559_dfd5cfe461.jpg could not find the dog, so I took a picture of our cat... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1214/857076587_25c4a84829.jpg
  9. I'd like to see Vino win, but I have a feeling it might be Kloden's tour. Frank Schleck for a podium.
  10. Magic Forest is quite close by (Van Riebeeckshof I think)...Buff and Marius will be able to tell you exactly how to get there. Take a drive out to Jonkershoek on a weekend. Can also go ride Delvera (Dirtopia) and Zevenwacht. Take a drive out to Grabouw and do the Lebanon trails...possibilities are endless
  11. Weet jy nie 4X (4 cross) is nie? Dit is basies 4 MTB ryers op 'n wye downhill baan. Amper soos 'n BMX race. Net bietjie meer opwindend as BMX (imho); nogal iets om te sien as twee of drie ouens dieselfde tyd 'n dropoff ry....
  12. I agree with Sean; where I live there has always been an area where kids built jumps etc...Municipal workers actually regularly tore down the jumps until some agreement was reached with the municiplaity and parents of the kids who rode there...but it is a haphazard affair. Now if we were to be able to build a proper BMX track in the same area....I am also in correspondence with the local municipality about the possibilityof developing part of the lower slopes of Papegaaiberg, where the pine forest was decimated by fires about two years ago, into a kind of MTB/DH skills nursery, where jumps, dropoffs, freeride sections (there are enough tree trunks lying around!) can be built for kids to use. This area is in full view of the houses in the upper area of the residential area, so it is quite safe. Needless to say, up until now the response has been zero.
  13. Also joined in August of '04
  14. Where do you enter to go to Zevenwagt? Might join there, depending at what time I manage to drag myself out of bed...maybe I hould just sit down and wait for the feeling to pass...
  15. Jees, you guys are really motivating me here....now if only I had a road-bike to put on the idt....darn!
  16. Call a wrecking company (those okes that demolish buildings) and ask. Might get 2nd hand roofing timber? Find a place that you can collect used wooden pallets.
  17. Nee bliksem. Ek gaan bedank Mooi Marius. S ien wat doen MTB aan jou seeding! (Dis nou wanneer jy 'n slag een klaarmaak sonder om te puncture)!
  18. I know..but 6 out of 10 sounded better than 5 out of 10
  19. So that makes 6 out of the top 10 that came through the Junior ranks in the Cape...Hoffmann, Venter, Kinnear, Viljoen, van Staden, Khaka....
  20. Fantastic news! This road is an integral part of a nice 45 km loop from my house via Kuils River..was wondering when they were going to finish it. Now I just have to get a road bike again...
  21. Gatiep, Happens with every big race in the country. Argus claims 35 000+ entries and 26 000 finishers; The 94.7 25 000 entries and 18 000 finishers...Many are simply no-shows, as Cervelo said. You rush to enter, pay your 180 bucks and then eventually just don't train/ride etc. In some funrides in the Western Cape we see a different trend....more people finish than are officially entered
  22. Shhh! Got everything except the groupset. That has to wait until a consultancy fee that I am owed is finally paid....was hoping to get things going already, but the best laid plans of mice and men...
