  1. Race went well for me and 3 of my athletes doing their first 70.3. All finished, all have stories and all are happy!!  Conditions were great, except for the heat and humidity on the run. Hopefully we will be back to racing in June next year rather than the heat and humidity of October

Well done Shaper. Great result. Great to catch up.

my wife finished in 8:26. Just just. Might do PE IM together in 2024.

Cheers for the support and good to catch up after the race!

For a little bit more of what you pay for a few months rental, there some tacx and a bkool smart wheel on trainers in the classified that will do the job for structured workouts for a triathlon training as you are not sprinting and generally only doing intervals in Z4, so wont have to worry about any wheel slippage and will be good enough. You can also use it then after Mossel Bay 70.3

After 85min into a 90min workout the Whoosh app closes/crashes. Upon restarting it wants me to start again. I had 30s recovery between the work intervals to try figure out what’s going on, so just left it.

    Played 2, won 1, lost 1

Luckily I build redundancy into my all my rides, and I have the workout on my Lezyne and also record on my Garmin (Vitality reasons).

What sort of rFTP would it take to run a 37 min 10k, and is a rFTP a similar number to a cycling FTP for a person who runs and cycles?

Work out your W/Kg and look at the table here https://blog.stryd.com/2020/01/10/how-to-calculate-your-race-time-from-your-target-power/ You will need to be around 4.75W/Kg if running with a stryd pod.  Terrain, elevation and ambient conditions may impact actual and will also have to be considered.

As also stated Cycling and Running FTP are completely different in the algorithm's used so not comparable

Eddy what is your experiences with the gas geyser during load shedding ?

Apparently some units needs electricity to ignite the gas ....

A lot of the newer gas geysers have batteries, no electrical connection, install 2 Duracell that last about a year.  have a look at the Dewhot geysers

  8. Problem with 10sp Di2 is availability of cables, this Di2 uses different electrical cables to that of 11sp Di2 and you will be unlikely to find replacement cables should one break or the connection to the any of the groupset not work properly, you will have a unusable groupset.  Cables are not backward compatible from 11sp Di2.  If you need to find replacements, you are likely to be shopping on ebay and hoping you can find.

Nothing wrong with 11spd mechanical.  I have Di2 11spd on my tri bike, I also have mechanical 11spd on a road bike and have no issues riding either.  With both systems you need to index properly and will have many kns of riding without issue.

I'm convinced this will be the next big thing from SRAM - An AI that takes your power and HR profile and auto shifts you into the most efficient / fastest gear while riding.

Imagine climbing a hill - the AI takes the segment off strava and knows the gradient and distance - takes your current power being produced and knows your ftp - takes your current HR and knows your HR zones - auto shifts to the best gear and tells you what cadence you need to produce to get to the top of the climb in the fastest time without puking up a lung.

With me it will simply put it in the granny gear and tell me to walk faster

idea has been around for a while

I am aware of the 800km guide used by many people, but I know often exceed that. But then I also never really ran much more than 15km at a time.

Life has changed a bit and I now regularly run 20-25km.  What do you look out for in terms of determining when your shoes are done for? OP says his shoes are 2 years old. At 10km once a week, that’s over 1000km

    Some pointers

    Good point, no assessment done.

Mostly trying to run 5-10 km regularly and the odd 21.1km

Would recommend getting an assessment done, can even get it done at Sportsmans.  Then you can start narrowing down the type of shoes within price range or slightly more.  If shoes going to last you 2 years then the investment will be worth it.

Most runners change shoes every 800km or so.  Some high end shoes don't last that long, others and if a light runner will get considerably more.
