  1. Heavy rider? Try 103kg, using 34 tooth chain ring and 11-41 cassette, fine for me
  2. I think the OP needs to clarify whether those prices were for hub or for the wheel build as well.
  3. Not sure the OP expected that. Sounded like the salesman brought that up
  4. Considering a Deore level hub will cost less than R 350 I don't think the OP is far off
  5. Shouldn't be a problem
  6. To quote Omega Man from this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/137342-tokai-mtb-club/
  7. FYI this is what I did. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/131061-ultra-poormans-xx1/
  8. Not necessarily, but it is advisable to get a Narrow/Wide chainring and/or clutch derailleur. Though there are people who make do without either.
  9. There may have been a slight tongue in cheek there.

    DIY Frame Build

I'm not sure, I'll check with a frame builder I know. Also maybe contact the guys from Salvo BMX, they use Chromoly on their frames. Can ask them where they source it. They can also do the TIG welding for you.
  11. This is also an option http://www.oneupcomponents.com I think evobikes has them, will check later. I also did a similar thing cost me around R500. I did a how-to which I'll post later too.
  12. Yeah, it's a bit tight. though it actually has more clearance than the frame I was planning to use. That frame has modular dropouts, so I'm getting some adapters made. I make my final decision once those are made. The chainguide is this one http://dialdbikes.co.za/dartmoor-simple-chain-guide.html http://dialdbikes.co.za/images/detailed/0/chain_device_Simple.jpg
  13. Not bad for a 21 year old frame!
  14. Just finished her......again. This time shod in 650Bs
  15. You should hear what the trail builders say!!! Anyway, how's the chain/derailleur setup working now?
  16. Brake BEFORE the corner, not in the corner. (It's actually quicker) A light feather in the corner is fine, just don't drag the back wheel.
  17. You should be using your front brakes much more than your rear brakes (like 70% vs. 30%) The rear wheel locks up a lot easier than the front due to physics; Centre of Gravity, etc. The front brake will also stop you a lot quicker.
  18. Some more pics
