  1. The Pyga I'm riding now came with a set of Crests on Hope. I bought it off a mate of mine who first had the wheels on his Rocky Mountain then on the Pyga so they're probably 2+ years old....he is well over 90kg's and rides through and over rather than around things and barring one ding on the back they are 100% and have seen PLENTY mileage...several stage races etc. I'm over 90 as well and have had no hassles and I certainly don't baby my bike or my wheels...mostly singletrack, G-spot etc...very little dirt roady-ing. Depends largely on your riding style as well....whilst swapping them out is probably the right thing to do I certainly would not lie awake at night concerned that they are going to collapse the first time you throw your leg over the saddle. (That said I have a set of Arch's hanging in the garage waiting to be built onto the Hopes when I DO finally trash them Crests....) Oh ya and a well built wheel using a Crest is going to be a lot less prone to picking up a buckle or a wobble than a poorly tensioned Arch EX for that matter.
  2. Where did you end up getting the fork from? I battled to lay my hands on one when I was in the market and the 853 ones avble were VERY expensive.
  3. Did Transbaviaans on my SC Heckler no problem...have to confess I did wimp out and fitted a set of easy-rollin' 2.1's though...

    Berg and Bush 2013

Thanks....other than SSWC2012 which I can't remember at all I'm not too familiar with the area.

    Berg and Bush 2013

Thanks Ratty for the info earlier on the thread. Does anyone know whether you are allowed to camp at the start of the Great Trek? Have left all this to the last minute as usual.

    Berg and Bush 2013

I'll be at the Great Trek....as you say the Descent's dates would have worked out better as this one is costing me a week's worth of leave when you include travel time etc. What are you guys doing in terms of logistics Ratty? We're flying to Durban and then renting an Avis car...gonna be tight in there.

    Spare Tube

I've had to do it due on a previous occasion and it tore the valve out of three different tubes on a single Oak Valley ride, won't go there again.
  8. I have a VERY low mileage one for sale if anyone's interested. More like millimeterage to be honest.
  9. Bargain for a Reba....Where do you get 29er suspension forks from at those prices?
  10. Mary's are a bit extreme but ya, ride what works for you! I loved my Fleegle's when I still had my Inbred....I miss that bike!
  11. Some seriously straight handlebars you've got going there.
  12. This would suit a man of good taste...newbies discount available. www.thehubsa.co.za/forum/classifieds/ad/53366-niner-mcr-medium-reynolds-853-steel-bike/
  13. Can anyone here tell me offhand what the shock length and stroke on the Pyga 110 is?
  14. I need to purchase a Seiko Kinetic as a gift for someone...don't ask why but I do. I'd love to trawl 43 pages of thread but simply don't have time....can anyone recommend the best (CHEAPEST) reputable place to get hold of one? Local store or else local / international online is all good....if you have any ideas please let me know. Anyone used these guys and if so, what costs would be on top of the price...what % do you pay customs on watches? http://www.have2have.co.za/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=seiko&x=32&y=12
  15. Saw a downhill lighty looking at my bike the other day and say to his mate "what the hell is the point of a Hope hub up front...it's not like it makes a noise or anything". Had to chuckle at that.
  16. Not long now....
  17. My favourite bed-time thread...thanks to all for their great contributions, this really makes you want to get out there and just ride ride ride...
  18. It's a pity Hell and Back is so late in the year. Would be fun to go ride and then just keep going home from there....early November too hot?
  19. Let's build it. Best would be to get a date and the rest of the details will sort themselves out.
  20. More Wood's panniers fell of three times within the first km of our trip in the Drakensberg last year. Some choice language was heard that day. The bikes get pretty heavy fully laden...for riding no problem, for hiking up die Leer perhaps not so fun
  21. Would love to be part of Dikwiel Kommando. Is this a panniers and camping or lightweight bikepacking and BnB kindof trip?
  22. Anyone looking for one of those rigid On One 29 forks....I have one for sale. It is currently connected to and will be sold with an Inbred 29 with sliding dropouts, ss specific wheelset (Sunn rims on DMR revolver hubs), fleegle bars, Shimano hydraulics and there really isn't much more to the bike than that. PM me your email address and Ill send pics and details tomorrow from the office when I'm meant to be working. Oh ya its a medium frame.
  23. PS I'm riding like a boss now! The singlespeed is probably going to have to go though...
  24. Not sure where you are based but the ortho surgeon that dealt with my trashed ankle has just done his 7th Sani in a row so must have a decent idea of the impact on riding... Perhaps its worth having a chat with him...he is based in Stellenbosch so if you are keen I can forward you his details. Having to go through two surgeries following a rather disastrous front tyre burp incident and having had to spend several months wondering whether or not I was going to be able to ride properly again I understand what a frustration and concern it can be.
  25. Cool....let me know when black 'n green is up for grabs then!
