  1. Was there last week Thursday. Used the main entrance. Kareekloof entrance is closed

Road conditions were near perfect. Came across 1 small pothole

    Lots of animals now.

Note that you have to pay at the main building. I had to pay R80 for taking a car in with my bike (Car R35 and cyclist R45) and payment by card only.

They had alot of workers there cleaning up the area. The toilets are in working order. The picnic area is closed so carry enough fluids

5L say whaaaaat. How much do you need. That would be like a 2 year old buying a pension in Zim dollars. By the time he gets to it, it will be worth nothing. I am on my third set of tyres this year and only top up with 100ml a time. Yip... Enduro seal.

    They also sell in 250ml.

  3. +1 for enduroseali

But also another less know south African brand is Noloopholes. https://noloopholes.co.za/shop-2/ R1400 for 5L. It has a very chemically smell but it works extremely well. I used it in my first Munga. could hear the air leaks from the tyres in the dead of the night on a long thorny stretch of road. it sealed all. Plenty of them. The seat tube was coated full with sealant so it sealed dozens of punctures

  4. I've been running Barzo front and Mezcal rear for 2 years now on 4 different bikes.

Ran a dual suspension at Munga 2019 with Mezcal front and rear at 2. 5 bar

This year ran a rigid hardtail with the same tyres but 1.2 front and 1.8 rear. I weigh 80kgs plus 16 for the bike in munga setup. It was beautiful.

Now I run all my barzos at 1 to 1.3 bar. Even on a dual suspension. Only thing is to be extremely careful on Rocky terrain. But tremendous grip on windy singletrack.

  5. It's simple, go get a saddle fit.

My first spez had the long nose spez phenom, and it just took t.i.t.s to get used to it.

I now ride the short nose spez power and ridefarr saddles. They do the same thing. I ride short tech trails and long distance up to The Munga races. There is a crossover where the saddle doesn't matter anymore. Like 15 hours.

The only time I find I sit forward is when hammering on a flat stretch and leaning forward on the bars.

The shorter saddles are recommended imo.

  6. Its not a cycling only strap but Ive been using the Garmin HRM Tri since 2016.

2 ironman, Joberg2c, Munga, many cycling and running races and still going strong.

    Key advantages.

    The strap never stretches,

The HR unit is non removable so you cant lose it

Easy washing, just throw it into soapy water

If u ever decide to take a jog or run, it gives run dynamics

If u ever decide to swim it measures Hr underwater

    Disadvantages

Only the initial price but thats all

  7. I have a 2015 Specialized Epic Expert bike that i use for ultra long distance riding (Munga, regular 100 milers etc). Get to 150 hours pretty quickly. Just did my rear shock at a cost of R1450. I service the shock 3 to 4 times a year

But I am going to order a yoke so that i can replace the rear brain shock with a normal shock.

Just need to find the right one

  8. Thanks for the clarity. Much appreciated. How big was your powerbank and how often did you need to charge it? What gps did you use and how long did it last? I am in Durban so mini munga rides are not an option. I will need to plot a route here.

More clarity. I used a borrowed wahoo element bolt exclusively for navigation. My own edge 820 for capturing the ride, hr speed etc. Both were plugged in permanently to a power bank. During the night the back light was on the wahoo. Both devices were on for the entire 99 hr ride. They were never switched off. I carried 2 power banks, 20000mah and 10000mah. I went overkill as I didn't want to risk losing navigation or the ride.

The 20000mah still had some charge in it at the end and they were never charged on route.

The grit is a 50 hr max ride, and if u using 1 device only, it is likely that a 10000mah should work. Faster u ride the less power u need. Get a good one. The energizer ones are great

  9. This is in the race prep document

"Remember that the Munga Grit is a GPS only route. So, you need to be able to follow a course on a GPS to finish the race…simple! The best thing to do is to start this process early. The Mini Munga rides are a great opportunity to ‘practice’ using your Garmin or other device and to get used to it."

It is identical to the Munga race prep document.

You would need to use your gps navigation as the route would not be marked. Stick a small powerbank on your bike to power the gps. I did this for The Munga

Thanks. No I mean for the actual event in October. Trying to figure out how to power my garmin 520 edge. I know it will last with an external battery unless I have to navigate via gps.

  10. So what is the service interval on a kickr 3?

Mine is 2.5 yrs old. It's the usual noisy one at high cadence. But I do have a delay when using erg mode when jumping from say 135w to 250 or 300 or more. There can be up to about 8 sec delay till it sets to the new power.

    I regularly do a spindown

Do I need to send it in for service/repairs/upgrade?
